Role SynopsisThe Lead of Derivative Reporting & Technical Accounting is part of the Accounting and Reporting team (ARC) in the GPTA business. The ARC team supports the commodity trading and marketing business of GPTA and is primarily responsible for the monthly financial reporting and close processes as well as the related accounting, financial analysis, and internal controls activities. Additionally, this role supports the preparation of the BPEC audited financial statements. This position will report to the Senior Manager Derivative Accounting.
AccountabilitiesLead the monthly and quarterly close processes with respect to derivative accounting activity for all GPTA commoditiesLead the drafting of the annual derivative disclosures to be included in Group and statutory reporting.Ensure a high standard of internal control relating to all derivative accounting activities.Support the quarterly and annual internal and external auditsSupport the statutory reporting and monthly reporting requirements related to the standalone BP Energy Company financials.Expertise in IFRS technical accounting guidance/ standards related to derivative accountingInteract with the business and other functions (e.g., Commodity Risk) to ensure the accuracy/integrity of financial accounts and reportsLiaise with other T&S areas and other accounting policy teams to share best practices and lessons learned.Assist with training on reporting and policy guidance and application to a variety of audiencesRequirementsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance6-8 years of financial accounting experience in either public accounting or industry6-8 years of energy derivative accounting experience in the North American natural gas or power industriesSome experience in IFRS or US GAAP, especially on the application of IFRS 7/ASC 815 to energy trading commodity transactions.Highly proficient in Microsoft ExcelStrong analytical skills; the ability to grasp and communicate trading concepts and their economic effectsHigh attention to detail and organization while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentAdvanced degree or CPA strongly preferred.Why join us?At bp, we support our people to learn and grow in a diverse and challenging environment.
