Summary:
Under the general supervision of the IR Nurse Manager Lead Nurse of Interventional Radiology (IR) the Medical Director of IR CT and US with the support of the Nursing Directors of Adult Patient services and in collaboration with the radiology managers coordinate direct and supervise patient care and patient flow within the department of Interventional Radiology.
Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients having procedures in Diagnostic Imaging in accordance with the hospital and department established policies and procedures and the physician 's orders.
All essential functions performed in the position reflect age specific needs of the geriatric adult and pediatric patients. Fosters patient and family centered care and nursing services in accordance with the Brown University Health and Rhode Island Hospital mission vision and values with consideration of the life span including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.
Responsibilities:

Provide and direct nursing care within Diagnostic Imaging with consideration of the aging process developmental and cultural patterns in each step of the nursing process.
Review daily schedule of IR CT & US procedures assess patient care needs and coordinate caseload and department flow with room equipment and staff availability.
Collaborate with IR physicians and Pre and Post Procedure room (PPP) charge nurse to provide timely care to add-on patients based on acuity.
Ensure that correct preparation is complete for all IR cases in accordance with department and procedural guidelines.
Collaborate with IR physicians and staff to ensure timely start and turnover of cases.
Attend morning report and share pertinent patient and procedural information with PPP and IR staff in a timely manner
Ensure equipment is maintained in proper working order and that malfunctioning equipment is removed form use and repaired or replaced.
Ensure safety and quality assurance checks of equipment are done on schedule.
Works with Nurse Manager to:
Ensure compliance with outside regulatory and accrediting agency standards.
Ensure compliance with RIH mandatory education credentialing and nursing and department standards.
Identify and resolve patient care conflicts.
Communicate and document staff performance with recommendations for quality and growth.
Document nursing staff performance problems.
Develop policies procedures and standards of care to promote positive patient outcomes.
Interview and select nursing applicants.
Orient and evaluate newly hired nurses.
Assist nurse manager to coordinate/create nursing work schedule.
Assist nurse manager with PPP billing charges as needed.
Participate in professional organizations.
Serve on various hospital committees as assigned.
Understands and practice ALARA principles of Radiation Protection including the use and exchange of personal dosimeters.
Other information:
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
ACLS & BLS certified.
Demonstrated mature judgment initiative and proficiency in nursing skills.
Is able to work without direct supervision.
Is knowledgeable in physical assessment aseptic techniques IV skills and universal precautions.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 2 years Vascular and Interventional Radiology experience preferred.
RIH IR experience preferred.
Minimum 2 year critical care experience.
One year supervisory experience preferred.
