WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
Product Designers shape the experiences we create through each of our digital products. As a Lead mobile designer on our team, you are an expert at native mobile design particularly iOS and Android platforms. You are also an expert with design systems and can leverage platforms from iOS and Android to extend and refine RBC’s mobile design system.
You have a familiarity with research methodologies to identify and conduct ongoing research to gather feedback that can be incorporated into designs in order to make data driven decisions. Comfortable within agile team environments and an iterative process, you’ll be collaborating with interdisciplinary team members and stakeholders as you analyze, design and convey your mobile design vision. A natural problem solver, communicator and facilitator, you’ll be involved in every step of the process from idea generation to implementation.
What will you do?
Understand user interface patterns and behaviors, and use that understanding to drive user comprehension, and improve task performanceUse visualizations and interactions to support analytic thinking with large data setsFacilitate design critique, evaluate interactions for inclusivity and provide expert advice and guidance to cross-functional teams and stakeholders, Facilitate ideation sessions and collaborative work activitiesUse a comprehensive understanding of interaction design theory, visual design theory, research data and best practices to inform design decisionsCreate complex low-fidelity sketches, wireframes, and prototypes to explore, communicate, and validate ideas, Create complex prototypes to provide delivery specifications for developmentFacilitate usability testing, Participate in or initiate research activitiesResearch interaction design strategies in the financial services sector and perform competitive audits pertinent to specific design or business goals, Perform pattern, micro-interaction and component design audits where appropriateWhat you need to succeed?
Must have:
BA/BS degree in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related field or equivalent practical experiencePortfolio that includes application design samples, a minimum of 5 years of experience in designing web and native mobile applicationsStrong technical understanding of mobile platforms iOS and Android, Strong understanding of design systemsExperience in an applied research setting including experience integrating user research into product designs and design practicesDemonstrated ability to articulate design strategy, rational and logic; describing benefits and highlighting risks associated with design decision, Demonstrated expertise with design, prototyping, and research tools such as Figma, Mural, UserTesting.com, Alida, MazeNice to have:
MA/MS degree or certification in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related fieldStrong understanding of strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phaseAppreciation for the potential of 'design thinking'Experience working within a large organization and within an agile environmentWhat’s in it for you?
