Lead Medical Assistant

The Lead Medical Assistant is accountable for assisting the medical staff in the safe and efficient delivery of medical services at the WelbeHealth clinic as directed. Under the general supervision of medical staff, the Lead Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and clinical duties such as scheduling medical appointments, greeting participants, filing medical records, taking and recording vital signs, preparing exam rooms, and maintaining equipment and supplies.

Essential Job Duties:

Act as the medical assistant subject matter expert, participating as a designated clinic trainer and preceptor, providing peer support to other medical assistants, and assisting the clinic with special projects Perform required pre-exam physical tests and general medical procedures (i.e., dressing changes and suture removal), assisting the physician during examinations as needed Collect and prepare laboratory specimens as ordered and perform routine sterilization procedures of medical and dental equipment Proactively review the onsite specialist calendar daily to ensure all available appointments are filled, and provide the weekly schedule to the specialists Perform and document ordered procedures and care, as well as provide as-needed teaching to participants in accordance with scope of practice, as directed

Schedule participants for medical appointments with both WelbeHealth clinic providers and external specialty offices, documenting encounters in the EMR, monitoring appointment attendance, and informing participants and their team

Job Requirements:

Certification by a medical assistant certifying organization approved by the State Medical Board, and pass the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam administered by the American Association of Medical Assistant (AAMA) Two (2) year degree program in medical assistance Minimum of two (2) years of medical assistant experience in a clinical setting with a frail or elderly population preferred Excellent clinical, organizational and communication skills in settings with seniors, their families, and interdisciplinary team members
