Lead Material Handler, Distribution Center
Location: Duluth, GA, USA - 2975 Evergreen Drive
Shift - Sunday 4pm to 12:30am; Monday-Thursday 5pm to 1:30am
Note - Shift subject to change based on the needs of the business. OT may be required and is mandatory if required.
Compensation - will depend on the candidate selected. A $1.00 shift differential will also apply.
Position Overview:
Lead Material Handlers are responsible for leading and managing a team of material handlers in order to maintain productivity levels within their designated shift. This includes ensuring timely delivery of materials to production lines while meeting quality standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills as well as excellent communication abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage inventory levels by tracking stock on hand, orders received vs. scheduled deliveries, returns from production lines etc., adjusting as necessary based upon production needs
Ensure proper documentation for all materials handled including receipts, transfers, put away’s etc., maintain accurate records according to procedures set forth by management
Supervise and lead material handlers on assigned shifts to meet department goals and objectives
Conduct daily safety inspections around facility and report any unsafe conditions or acts immediately
Maintain cleanliness standards throughout warehouse areas
Work closely with Production Scheduler/Planner to ensure materials are available when needed
Participate in periodic meetings with other departments such as Quality Assurance, Production Planning & Control, Warehouse Operations etc., sharing information regarding shortages or surpluses of materials
Keep up with changes in processes and procedures related to material handling and distribution
Other tasks may be assigned to improve and maintain the proper training and support of the DC
Minimum Qualifications:
Typically requires 5+ years of related experience
Additional Skills and Qualifications:
5 years of experience in a distribution center (pick, pack) with some leadership. Internal employees must have 1 year of distribution center experience to qualify
Power equipment experience strongly preferred (including cherry picker, reach truck, and a powered pallet jack). Location is willing to train those with no experience; however, must be able to maintain certifications
Excellent communication skills: Must be able to partner with diverse groups or individuals to train, mentor, and explain processes/SOPs
MS Office at basic level (data entry, Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Teams)
Exposure to Accumax, E1/RF web preferred
Must be a positive change team member that demonstrates passion and commitment to the success of the team and individuals
Good critical thinking skills with the ability to see the “big picture” and be proactive
Excellent organization and prioritization with competing priorities
Critical thinking skills – root cause analysis & understanding of how functions are related
Basic Math – add/subtract/multiply/divide
Bilingual preferred- Spanish
Physical Demands (may include all or some of the following, some only on occasion):
General office demands
Must be comfortable working at heights
Must be comfortable working in refrigerated areas when required
Ability to walk up to 10 miles throughout the course of a shift (steps vary per shift)
Ability to lift 20-50 pounds repetitively throughout the course of a shift without assistance; ability to lift greater weights in a team lift (weight varies based on product)
May sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the day.
May sit or stand seven (7) to ten (10) hours per day.
May be necessary to work extended hours as needed.
Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required.
May need to work in cold or refrigerated areas
Visual acuity to see and read fine prints. Specific vision abilities required by this role include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Must be able to hear normal voice sounds
