Job Description
The Lead Laboratory Technician is responsible for overseeing and monitoring laboratory test analysis and specimen integrity for assigned lab sites to ensure proper patient care. This role involves ensuring all laboratory policies and procedures are followed for specimen collection, test performance, and result entry, while supervising, training, and maintaining competency of lab staff and laboratory instruments. Additionally, the technician ensures compliance with standards for CLIA licensing and inspections.
Responsibilities
+ Provide training for new lab hires, including phlebotomy training, and complete training tracking sheets and packets.
+ Deliver weekly progress reports, including 60- and 90-day evaluations, and communicate employee training progress and performance to the Practice Manager.
+ Escalate employee deficiencies and areas of concern.
+ Ensure lab staff perform daily standard quality control (QC) testing and review daily, weekly, and monthly QC.
+ Perform and complete annual calibration of lab instruments, ensuring all equipment is in good working condition.
+ Monitor laboratory test analysis and specimen integrity to ensure proper patient care and adherence to lab policies.
+ Oversee the LIS worklist daily, including reference lab orders.
+ Assess lab staff proficiency test results and provide support by coaching employees.
+ Correct equipment errors for proficiency scores less than 100%.
+ Support lab operations in medical offices and cover lab shifts when needed.
+ Perform laboratory testing procedures in Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Serology, Microbiology, and Spirometry.
+ May perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks for pediatric patients.
+ Supervise, train, and conduct reviews for Lab Technicians.
Essential Skills
+ Ability to supervise, train, lead, delegate, and mentor staff.
+ Knowledge of laboratory quality control requirements.
+ Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
+ Phlebotomy skills.
+ Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
+ Ability to assess emergency situations and act accordingly.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant or LPN program preferred.
+ Minimum 3 years of lab experience in a healthcare setting required.
+ Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience strongly preferred.
+ CPR certification required.
+ Medical Assistant, State of Florida Clinical Laboratory Technician, and Phlebotomy certification preferred.
Work Environment
This position involves patient-facing indoor work and operating computers. It may expose the employee to hazards and require manual dexterity, such as reaching outward and above the shoulder. The job includes lifting or carrying up to 10 lbs, pushing or pulling up to 12 lbs, and involves sitting, walking, squatting, kneeling, or bending. Travel is 100% local with less than 5% out-of-state travel.

The pay range for this position is $33196.00 - $46883.00/yr.
