The Job:
As a Lead Industrial Designer - 3D Surfacing, you’ll be part of our Outdoor team working as a hybrid employee. The team delivers complex 3D surface models that represent the design intent of the industrial design team. The Lead Industrial Design 3D Surfacer will help deliver 3D CAD surface models for brands including DEWALT, CRAFTSMAN, BLACK+DECKER, PORTER CABLE and STANLEY FATMAX, and across product portfolios including Power Tools and Outdoor Products. As a member of the Surfacing Team, you will work closely with Industrial Designers, Engineers and Program Managers to provide critical 3D deliverables for new products. Daily duties will entail managing team members and the creation of 3D CAD surface models using a variety of surfacing tools in CATIA V5 to support new product development projects and concepts. You’ll get to:
Lead and mentor direct reports, developing their skills and working with Surfacing/ID leaders to create a career progressionRecommend career actions for team membersProvide technical leadership to new hires and internsCreate parametric surface models of new products and new product families using GSD workbench in CATIA that are adaptable to change as design evolvesDevelop strategies for creation of surface models of complex product families that ensure consistency and maximize efficiency of data creationEmploy Data Reuse techniques to help maximize efficiency and quality of throughputManage time effectively in order to support multiple projects concurrentlyAdhere to company 3D modeling best practicesUse a PLM system to manage 3D CAD dataMeet product schedule deadlinesThe Person:

BS, BA or equivalent in Industrial Design/Engineering/Product Design or similarExperience in 3D CAD packages with a focus on Surfacing (CATIA V5 preferred, 8+ years experience)Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, etc.)Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Plastic Part DesignAbility to lead a team, managing resources and timing for multiple programsProject management skills – ability to manage the creation of multiple 3D CAD surface models for new product familiesAbility to encourage creativity and risk takingAbility to create complex, robust Power Copies and Macros in CATIA V5Strong understanding of CATIA V5 Surfacing (Generative Shape Design) and Part Design Tools (15+ years experience)Knowledge of manufacturing requirements, and how they are applied to component designsAn eye for aesthetics and detail, and an ability to translate 2D sketches into 3D CAD surface models that accurately capture industrial design intentGreat communication and collaboration abilitiesExcellent creative problem solvingSelf-motivated and a positive attitudeAbility to work well with, and influence established teamsCapable of multi-tasking and managing multiple prioritiesMust have strong time management skillsApplication Instruction:
