Lead I - Software Engineering - DB Developer

Experience Range: 7 to 12 years

Role Description:

As a Senior Database Developer at UST Health, you will play a key role in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining robust database systems. You will work closely with external vendors, including industry leaders in healthcare, to deliver high-performance database solutions. Your responsibilities will include coding, debugging, performance optimization, and providing technical guidance to junior team members. This role requires a strong understanding of database architecture, Agile methodologies, and healthcare payer systems.

Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain database systems and SQL code. Build database objects following industry standards (e.g., tables, views, stored procedures, triggers, indexes). Independently debug, test, and optimize T-SQL queries and stored procedures. Ensure repeatability and reusability of integration design and processes. Perform database versioning and maintain data integrity. Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues in database environments. Conduct quality assurance and testing of database solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Agile methodologies (JIRA, SCRUM, Git, BitBucket). Mentor junior developers and provide constructive feedback. Engage with external vendors and internal teams to resolve technical challenges. Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and internal controls. Document database designs, development processes, and technical solutions. Mandatory Skills: Expert-level experience in MySQL database development. Proficiency in T-SQL (queries, stored procedures, functions, triggers, indexes). Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix environments for database operations. Experience with Agile tools and methodologies (JIRA, SCRUM, Git, BitBucket). Expertise in performance tuning and query optimization. Ability to work independently and manage complex database projects. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience with database versioning and best practices for database maintenance. Good-to-Have Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and other RDBMS systems. Exposure to NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB) and graph databases (e.g., Neo4J, Janus). Experience in healthcare IT applications and managed care environments. Familiarity with Medicare and Medicaid systems. Understanding of software architecture governance. Ability to use visual tools (e.g., Lucidchart) for database design and collaboration. Soft Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities. Ability to engage and motivate team members. High degree of reliability and attention to detail. Problem resolution and crisis management.
