Job Description:
We are looking for a talented and creative iSeries/AS400 Developer to join our Application
Development, Solutions Support, and Reverse Engineering Projects team. The selected
candidate will be working with one of the leading wholesale retailers in the US and should
possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities:
• Analyze and develop iSeries/AS400 code to support various retail domain applications.
• Create functional specifications for applications following standard practices.
• Perform code reviews, unit testing, and collaborate with the development & QA teams.
• Adhere to client development standards and deployment procedures.
• Work closely with the Product Owner, business team, and IT leadership to define and
document requirements.
• Participate in development estimation, deployment, and release planning.
• Provide Level 2 support for incident resolution and create KB articles for Level 1
support.
• Stay updated on technology advancements, business knowledge, and client
policies.
• Perform peer code reviews to ensure scalability, best practices, and reusability.
• Engage in technical discussions related to software design, architecture, and user
experience.
Mandatory Skills:
• Strong programming expertise on IBM iSeries/AS400 platform:
o RPG, RPG ILE, SQLRPGLE, Control Language (CLP/CLLE)
o SQL concepts: Embedded SQL, complex queries, cursors
o Database concepts: Physical Files, Logical Files, SQL Tables, Indexes, Views,
Stored Procedures
o Screen programming: Display Files, Subfiles, Printer Files
• Experience in ILE Programming (Program Modules, Binding Directories, Service
Programs).
• Message Queuing (MQ), MQ Triggers, and embedding XML tags in RPG Programs.
• Ability to document business rules and create data mapping documents.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to take ownership of project tasks.
Good to Have Skills:
• Experience with Turnover (Code Configuration Management Tool).
• Knowledge of X-Analysis (Cross-Reference Tool for iSeries).
• Familiarity with Triggers, Message Queuing for inter-program/system
communication.
• Hands-on experience with ROBOT Job Scheduler for scheduled jobs on iSeries.
• Understanding of normalized, de-normalized tables, and Star Schema databases.
• Experience with iSeries Navigator for running queries and performance analysis.
• Domain knowledge in Retail, Lawson ERP, Finance, and Membership is a plus.
