Job Title: Lead HVAC Mechanic – (St. E)
Job Summary: EMCOR Government Services has an immediate need for an HVAC Journeyman Mechanic in Washington, DC to provide services to include performing maintenance and repair of equipment at General Services Administration (GSA) Operations, Maintenance. This position is covered by the CBA for Local 99.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
As a working Lead, this individual is responsible to his/her immediate supervisor for the safe and efficient operation of all equipment in his/her specialty qualification and for emergency notification of proper supervisory personnel as needed.
Responsible for the scheduling and daily production of work assigned to the employees under his/her supervision. Installs, services and repairs environment-control systems in residences, department stores, office buildings and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout. Mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications. Fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and fictions. Fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment. Installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools. Cuts and threads pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment. Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant. Installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit. Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power Installs air and water filters in completed installation. Injects small amounts of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and adds freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure. Observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to ensure proper operation. Tests joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges or soap-and-water solution. Wraps pipes in insulation batting and secure them in place with cement or wire bands. Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units, using electrical wiring to repair installed units, using electrician’s} land tools and test equipment. May install, repair and service air conditioners, (15 - 20 tons cooling capacity) in warehouses and small factory buildings.
Qualifications
CFC Certification required HVAC License required. Must possess an active Public Trust, or eligibility to obtain. Must possess one or more of the following certifications: North American Technician Excellence (N.A.T.E.) HVAC Service Technician Certification HVAC Excellence Professional Level Certification UA Star HVACR Mastery Certification Five (5) or more years of experience in maintenance and repairs on Commercial-Industrial building equipment to include but not limited to: Chillers, Pumps, Control Systems, Air Handlers, Cooling Towers, Heat Exchangers, VAV's VFD's. Demonstrate the ability to read and understand Blueprints, schematics and specifications. Be able to demonstrate practical knowledge of Chiller Plant Operations. Be able to demonstrate practical knowledge of Building Air Systems.
Physical Demands
