Job Title: Lead Hand
Summary:
Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Lead Hand leads day-to-day production activities in their assigned area(s) ensuring production attainment, quality and EHS targets are met.
Performance Expectations
Support production line operations to achieve daily targets related to quality, output, and safety by Training operators to run more efficiently Troubleshooting process issues and resolving them Troubleshooting tooling and die issues and correcting them Troubleshooting machine issues and correcting them Escalating issues to appropriate departments and driving resolution of issues. Communicate EHS, Quality and performance to goals to team members at daily line-side shift meetings. Communicate and verify that changes to process and Quality Alerts are understood and have been implemented within their assigned team. Training and coaching team members to ensure they meet production requirements for attainment, quality, and safety. Conduct probationary and annual performance reviews with assigned team members. Communicate with assigned team members frequently throughout the day to address quality issues, production rates, objectives, etc. Review and perform adjustments for in-process parts according to audit results. Complete first piece inspections and sign off on first piece tags on time at the beginning of shift. Ensure that production and inventory control tools are used as prescribed. Verify that operators have completed checklists on time at the beginning of the shift. Keep and share precise production records, including end-of-shift reports. Complete all paperwork accurately and timely (daily inspections, checklists, scrap tracking, downtime tracking, shift reports, etc.). Verify proper tagging on all product containers and racks. Ensure all applicable documentation is available at each cell. This includes Coating Maps, Quality Alerts, Production Rate Targets and other product specific items. Operate production equipment as needed. Monitor and perform tool / insert changes. Act as a role model for EH&S performance ensuring adherence to safety protocols and company standards and actively promoting a safe working environment. Ensure that 5S / S5 standards are being met across work area(s) that comply with the Linamar standard. Understands how their job contributes to profitability. Other duties/projects as assigned. Continuously maintain current knowledge of all organizational accounting practices through seminars, webinars and professional conferences as needed.
Credentials
Minimum of two years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with hands-on experience in line setup and equipment operation.
Desired Characteristics
Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a team and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated proficiency and understanding of VRC / PRC casting production process including ability to perform machine setup, tooling setup, process loading, die preparation, process troubleshooting and recovery. Demonstrated proficiency and understanding of metal handling and treatment including degassing, fluxing, skimming and temperature issue abatement. Demonstrated proficiency with finishing operations such as trim, saw, and decore. Demonstrated proficiency and understanding of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) required to maximize OEE on all equipment including, automation recovery, metal delivery systems, hydraulics, and control power. Demonstrated understanding and proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving issues with PLEX production reporting, labeling and scrap reporting. Must be able to read, write and complete required paperwork. Must be able to do basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide). Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work closely with both team members and supervisors. Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines while maintaining safety and quality standards. Excellent attendance and safety record.
