Role scope

To undertake, oversee and deliver high-quality detailed electrical design and engineering projects including calculations, analysis, schematics, drawings, diagrams, models, specifications, data sheets and other documentation required for HV and LV electrical equipment. Design electrical systems to the specifications, keeping safety and compliance with all local and federal laws and regulations at the forefront of your mind. Review designs to ensure they will be safe, fit the clients' needs, and remain in compliance.

Details / responsibilities

Experience in the design of electrical distribution systems in a project team environment with a focus on studies, Front End (FEED)design, detailed design for new plants and modifications/replacements of existing equipment in process plantsPrepare Electrical equipment specifications, data sheets and purchasing requisitionsDevelop/Coordinate protective relay settings and coordination studies.Load List and Electrical equipment sizingDesign of LV & MV Single Line Diagrams with strong knowledge of Relay & Metering systems associated with substations and e-houses.Design of motor protection and control schematics/wiring diagramsReview vendor designs for compliance with Technical Specifications and applicable standardsCoach and support the team members on projectsMonitor and update electrical manhours and schedule progress on assigned projectsProvide Electrical BOMs and major equipment costs for capital cost estimates at various project stages (Feasibility Study, PDB and Detailed Engineering)Establish the scope of work for projects/ proposals, developing engineering cost estimates and deliverable listsAttend project team meetings, Client meetings and vendor review meetingsEstablish a good working relationship with the ClientsReview designs for constructability and accordance with project requirements

Qualifications

A degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institutionA minimum of 15 years of experience in the design of Electrical distribution systems in Oil & Gas FacilitiesProficient in engineering theories and principlesRegistered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with APEGAGood writing skills to produce reports, scope documents and presentation materialsKnowledge of applying engineering application software like ETAP or SKM to study relay coordination, load flow, short circuit, arc flash, harmonic and motor starting the analysisKnowledge of electrical design calculationsFamiliar with Heat Tracing designKnowledge of Interfacing with DCS, SCADA, PLC etc.Knowledge of electrical Area Classification design and studiesKnowledge of Battery/ UPS systemsKnowledge of Substation Grounding study and Grounding Grid LayoutFamiliar with outdoor/indoor Substation Equipment layoutStrong client focus; able to represent the company professionally when communicating with clients and visiting client sitesProven experience in successfully leading medium to large-size projects (budget of about 20000 hrs)Experience in managing vendor electrical packages (substation, e-houses, Transformers, VFD etc.)Experience in Kearl oil sands projects will be considered an assetWorks with minimal supervision manages own time effectively and maintains control over all current projects/responsibilitiesKnowledge of domestic and international codes (CEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, API, NEMA, etc.)Very good communication and report writing skills in EnglishDemonstrate a high regard for safety, quality and environmental policies and proceduresExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalDemonstrated leadership skillsTeam playerProven multi-tasker with strong organizational skillsAbility to meet assignment schedule & deliver quality products under pressureSelf-motivated & goal-orientedStrong computer background including experience with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)International Codes & Standards and Best Engineering Practices that apply to ElectricalQuality management system and proceduresProject management and control proceduresElectrical workflow and interdisciplinary co-ordinationProject Electrical DeliverablesProject Risk AssessmentAdherence to HSE norms by self and teamProficiency in understanding of Electrical Operating philosophyProficiency in Power system studies and analysis
