Job Description

Responsible for engineering, design, and modification activities related to mechanical equipment, vessels and tanks and piping systems including equipment and piping specifications and procurement. May be involved with the support of installation and operation & maintenance of equipment.

Discipline concerning air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, combustion, heat transfer, energy, power, fuels, propulsion, machinery, tools, manufacturing, fluids, plumbing, fire suppression systems and devices, water supplies and pumping systems for fire protection.

Discipline covers the ability to solve problems that deliver and optimize safe, sustainable and ethical solutions for the design, production and operation of devices, machines, structures, processes and systems involving mechanical elements.

Duties and Responsibilities

Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for teamProvides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertiseDevelops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by othersParticipates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverablesDevelops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projectsUses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E packagePerforms quality control review of design calculations or drawingsPrepares technical specification sectionsProvides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirementsLeads HVAC system design for complex commercial, residential, and data center projectsConducts energy modeling and analysis to optimize HVAC system performanceCollaborates with architects and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated design solutionsDevelops and implements sustainable design strategies to meet energy efficiency goalsOversees the selection and sizing of HVAC equipment and componentsEnsures compliance with local building codes, ASHRAE standards, and other relevant regulationsMentors junior engineers and provides technical guidance to the HVAC design teamParticipates in client meetings and presentations to communicate design concepts and solutionsConducts site visits to assess existing conditions and verify installation of HVAC systemsTroubleshoots and resolves complex HVAC design issues during construction and commissioning phases

Leadership

Works independently and collaboratively with a lesser level of guidance needed for unfamiliar tasksProvides regular updates to the manager on project/assignment statusMay assist more junior staff members with aspects of their job and may coordinate activities of a small team

Qualifications

 

Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (with minimum 10 years' experience) or Equivalent and specializing in HVAC Design.Should be well versed with ASHRAE/CIBSE/NFPA standards and regulations.Should have experience in commercial, residential, datacenter, and infrastructure projects from different geographies - USA, Canada, ANZ Region.Experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer - Specialized in HVAC Design.Should be capable of leading the discussions with the Client and lead projects for the HVAC Disciplines.Should be able to take Design decisions independently.Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.Proficiency in HVAC design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar BIM tools.Strong knowledge of energy modeling software (e.g., eQUEST, EnergyPlus, or IES-VE).Demonstrated experience in sustainable design practices and LEED certification processes.Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in resolving complex HVAC design challenges.Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for client interactions and team leadership.Experience with lifecycle cost analysis and value engineering for HVAC systems.Familiarity with emerging technologies in HVAC, such as geothermal systems, VRF systems, and smart building controls.
