Lead Engineer, Product Ownership (Mechanical Systems)

R&D unit in KTI is responsible for developing digital services at KONE. It’s the development engine for our Digital Services such as KONE 24/7 Connected Services, Office Flow and Partnership Ecosystem.

Are you passionate about driving product innovation and ownership in the field of mechatronic systems? At KONE, we are looking for a dynamic Lead Engineer to lead the lifecycle management of our automatic installation systems and tools. Join us in pioneering innovative solutions that enhance productivity and quality in elevator installations.

As the Lead Engineer, you will hold a pivotal role in steering the strategic direction and lifecycle of our installation automation tools and systems. You will ensure these systems meet functional requirements and excel in quality, cost, and delivery timelines. This role demands proactive leadership in design updates, stakeholder collaboration, and driving product evolution through its life cycle. There’s possibility to work remotely couple of days a week.

Key Responsibilities

Design Leadership: Lead the development and evolution of mechanical and mechatronics designs of automation tools and systems for elevator installation.

Product Lifecycle Ownership: Manage the entire lifecycle of product updates, from product development to market release, maintaining alignment with project targets and stakeholder expectations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, production, and supplier teams to address product-related inquiries and foster partnerships that enhance product success.

Manufacturing Insight: Apply deep knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials to ensure feasibility, quality, and innovation in design solutions.

Cost and Quality Optimization: Utilize product cost management principles to enhance designs while safeguarding quality standards.

Data-Driven Innovation: Leverage data analytics to drive insights, support decision-making, and inspire continuous improvements in product offerings.

What we’re looking for

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field

Proven experience (3+ years) in mechanical design and product lifecycle management with a focus on innovation and strategic oversight

Working knowledge in CAD software (e.g., Creo) and familiarity with PLM/PDM systems

Strong systems thinking capabilities and a strategic mindset

Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage cross-functional teams effectively

Experience in managing supplier relationships and driving product success through collaborative efforts

Ability to work independently, lead multiple projects, and ensure milestones are achieved

Experience with data analytics tools and methodologies is a plus
