Lead Embedded Developer (Software in the Loop)

Geotab is seeking a Lead Embedded Developer for Software In the Loop (SIL) who will be primarily responsible for designing, writing, and validating code for scalable automated testing of Geotab’s GO telematics devices. What you'll do:

As a Lead Embedded Developer for Software In the Loop (SIL) your key area of responsibility will be defining strategic direction, planning the roadmap, and synthesizing feedback to ensure team success, as well as breaking down large engineering efforts into smaller pieces that can be completed in parallel in collaboration with the team. You will need to work closely with other embedded systems developers, engineers, and internal technical teams in a mentorship role, and contribute towards the development of the team’s roadmap. To be successful in this role you will be a highly organized, entrepreneurial-minded individual with strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to research and solve open-ended design problems. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong analytical skills with an ability to identify key areas of architecture improvement and take ownership of technical projects, managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

How you'll make an impact:

Identify key areas of architecture improvement and contribute to the team roadmap.

Take ownership of technical projects and contribute to their implementation and output.

Contribute to defining strategic direction, planning the roadmap, and synthesizing feedback to ensure team success.

Break down large engineering efforts into smaller pieces that can be completed in parallel in collaboration with the team.

Develop an in-depth understanding of the GO device application and functionality and how all firmware modules work.

Mentor other developers on the team and work with the team lead to set the direction of the team and guide key stakeholders on execution choices and trade-offs.

Write unit tests and perform integration and system-level testing in both real and simulated vehicles, to demonstrate that new features meet design requirements.

What you'll bring to the role:

10+ years experience in Software/Embedded development roles or related fields.

5+ years experience in automated testing of Linux/embedded systems.

3+ years experience in developing containerized, microservices environments geared towards scalable cloud deployments.

Strong knowledge of GO and Python programming languages.

3+ years experience in embedded systems development with multitasking real-time operating systems.

Experience with C programming language and POSIX environment in an embedded software context.

Post-secondary Diploma/Degree with specialization in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate and document complex technical systems and decisions.
