Lead CSS

Job Description:

The incumbent of this position is responsible for providing community-based services for individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorders.

Essential Job Functions: 

Participates in clinical staffing and treatment team meetings assisting CSS Supervisor in providing feedback and direction to the treatment team.

Be responsible for their own as well as assisting the CSS team to develop treatment plans in an evolving, individualized and creative manner meeting all DMH/CARF regulations.

Assists in screening/assessment coordination and completes all correspondence and request of information in a thorough and timely manner.

Assists CSS and/or Clinical Supervisor in completion of file reviews, making sure treatment plans are derived from assessments, DAP is being utilized, progress notes refer to treatment plans and transition planning is initiated directly after admission.

Represents the agency in community based programs as well as developing ongoing community referral base for client advocacy.

Assist in weekly supervisory meetings regarding individualized training plans of CSSs and further documentation of such meetings in supervisory records.

Assist in handling crisis situations and any/all follow up with possible investigation/incident reports.

Assist CSSs and other treatment staff to increase group facilitation skills through training and feedback from observation.

Assist management team on ensuring all DMH/CARF and Agency regulations are being adhered to.

Assist in the interviewing, hiring, training of new community support staff.

Complete all job duties of a Community Support Specialist 

Assumes CSS Supervisory role in CSS and/or Clinical Supervisor’s absence.

Demonstrates interest in long term and short term goals and objectives of the company.

Other duties as assigned by the Vice President or designee, and the Chief Executive Officer.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of case management and rehabilitation methods, principles and techniques as they relate to mental health and/or substance abuse treatment services.

Extensive knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations of the program to which the associate is assigned.

Detailed knowledge of the problems encountered by persons with mental illness and/or substance use disorders residing in the community and how to access the various community resources available.

Considerable knowledge of the methods and modalities as well as the legal requirements and court procedures related to treating mental illnesses and substance abuse. 

Some knowledge of supervisory and training techniques and practices used in a mental health setting.

Aptitudes to develop, coordinate, and evaluate services within assigned program responsibilities.

Capability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively both verbally and written to produce clear and concise reports.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

A person with a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling, psychology, or a closely related field and at least one (1) year of full time equivalent experience in providing community support services;

OR

A person with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling, psychology, or a closely related field and at least two (2) years of full time equivalent experience in providing community support services ; AND

Demonstrated competencies in the areas of supervision and substance abuse treatment and rehabilitation by virtue of experience and/or training.

Supervisory Requirements:

Communicate the strategic direction of the organization and encourage participation by all team members.

Provide leadership and guidance to all aspects of the department.

Take an active role in monitoring the identification, development, and execution of strategic objectives.

Involve, as appropriate, all team members to achieve goals.

Effectively communicate to team members any changes and newsworthy events within the department or company.

Handle difficult team member situations directly, using appropriate discretion and Human Resource advice to show respect for the individual

Champion change and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas.

Reinforces team approach throughout functions; support and solicit input from team members at all levels within the company.

Employment Requirements:

Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.

Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.

First Aid certification within three (s) months of beginning employment and upon renewal date. 

CPR certification within three (3) months of beginning employment and upon renewal date. 

Behavioral Management training completed within thirty (30) days of employment or first available class after start date:

CPI for Residential programs

Crisis Management on Relias Learning or Verbal De-escalation for Outpatient programs  

Achievement of thirty-six (36) hour training requirements within 2 year period in accordance with 9 CSR 10-7.110 E 1.

Growth and Development form (CPRC only) within thirty (30) days of employment.

Privileging and Credentialing form (CPRC only) within thirty (30) days of employment.

Valid Driver’s license in state of residency with an acceptable driving record is required.

Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age to operate a company-owned vehicle.

Must be at least twenty-three (23) years of age to operate a company-owned fifteen (15) passenger van.

Must have reliable means of transportation in order to transport clients in personal vehicle.

Proof of valid and current auto insurance is required.

Physical Requirements:

ADA Consideration - Sedentary work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (exists up the 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (exists 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Repetitive movements of hands, fingers, and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
