The Lead Auditor is responsible for leading audit assignments that support the vision and strategy of General Motors Audit Services (GMAS). This includes ownership for execution of audit planning, fieldwork, and reporting.
GMAS provides independent, objective assurance and advisory services designed to strengthen General Motors Company’s operations and support informed risk-taking. The objective of GMAS is to assist senior management and the board in the effective discharge of their responsibilities by providing independent controls assurance, analysis, recommendations, and information concerning activities reviewed. The scope of GMAS responsibility and work includes, but is not limited to, evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of the Company’s risk management, internal control and governance processes, as well as the quality of performance in carrying out the Company’s stated goals and objectives.
• Lead a team of audit staff and senior auditors in execution of Audits.
• Perform Continuous Business Monitoring and Risk Assessment
• Lead planning and scoping of audits, with support from the Audit Manager
• Develop audit plans including identification of risks and procedures to test
• Review workpapers for accuracy, adequate testing coverage, and appropriate documentation
• Update the STAR system to reflect audit progress and reviews and approves workpapers in STAR
• Operate as the lead for GMAS’s Engineering Center of Expertise.
• Maintain and update risk and control matrices for assigned audits
• Lead status meetings with the business unit / auditee
• Draft issues ensuring the root cause is accurately identified and that management action plans are developed that address the root cause. Assign an initial issue rating in conjunction with the audit team.
• Draft the audit report, including rating and report conclusions
• Proactively communicate audit results with GMAS management and business owners for alignment
• Work with Audit Staff to Develop recommendations for audit issues identified to achieve a balanced control environment
• Represent GMAS and interfaces with the business and service lines
• Monitor timeline and budgets for audit planning, execution, and reporting
• Provide or assist in providing training, coaching and guidance to Internal Audit staff in conducting audits and other audit-related issues
• Assist staff in difficult situations including resolving conflicts
• Develop a good understanding of GM operations worldwide
• Build strong relationships with the business and service lines
• Participate in ongoing professional development
• Serve as a brand ambassador for ‘One GMAS’

Knowledge:
• Practical knowledge of audit methodology from audit initiation through action plan validation.

• Understanding of Engineering Issue Management principles from Issue Identification, Root Cause, Solution, Feedback, Containment, and Read Across.
• Awareness of NHTSA Safety Act & TREAD requirements and how they impact OEM processes across the enterprise. Including comprehension of the investigation and recall reporting requirements.
• Understanding of Engineering Change Management principles from Change Drivers, Criteria, Development Phases, Breakpoint Controls, Cross-Functional Communication, Change Validation, and other Requirements (i.e. DRBFM application)
• Comprehension of Program Launch and Development principles as applied to GM’s Global Vehicle Development Process, Global Propulsion Development Process, Global Electrical Architecture Development Process, and Global Software Development Processes.
• Awareness of System Engineering and System Safety principles and how they are applied to product.
Education/Training:
Required:
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering Specialization (automotive, mechanical, electrical, chemical, etc.)
Preferred:
• Graduate Degree in Engineering, MBA, or MSA
• Professional certification demonstrating process competencies (Six Sigma, ISO Auditor, CIA, other)
Experience:
Required:
• 5-7 years of combined audit, consulting, and operational experience in technical areas of engineering, quality and/or product safety.
Preferred:
• Relevant industry experience
Location: Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the GM - Renaissance Center Detroit, MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]
