Primary Purpose: As a Lead Application Development Specialist, you will provide technical services to assigned industry customers for the purpose of sales growth. Promote distinction between Univar Solutions and our competitors by using a technical consultative approach to needs-based evaluations of the technology utilized by customers. Adapt and implement on a local basis, the national product strategies, and services based on the industry’s strategy. Assist field sellers and industry-specific team members with joint calls. Identify which Univar technological product best suits the customer’s applications and develop strategies to promote customers’ adaptation and or conversion to Univar products. Builds profitable sales, employing a consultative approach. Develops and maintains a long-term partnership with customers by using industry expertise. Uses Univar resources to provide solutions to customer needs and gathers market intelligence.

 

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

 

• Manage communication with supplier technical recourses

• Collaborates on products and service solutions

• Attend product training / continual education / updates

• Assist with new product launches • Assist in qualifications of potential new suppliers/products

• Provide feedback on technical aspects, intelligence, and marketplace 50% Customer Activities

• Assist customer with application/formulation support

• Provide technical support at all levels of customer (2,1,0) as necessary

• Coordinate supplier meetings at key/target customers

• Review opportunities, coordinates efforts to close with local sales organization

• Joint calls with Univar Sales and Suppliers at customers

 

Assist in Business Development:

o Develop technical proposals

o Generate product/service application solutions

• Identify new service/product opportunities through monitoring industry/market changes and customer needs

• Provide training and give presentations

• Fully understand local markets/trends and products for customers 25%

• Provide product and industry training to all Sales and Sales support teams as required

• Participate in all Industry related meeting / teleconferences • Assist with Supplier/Customer contract negotiations

• Assist in Business plan development – Goals, forecasts

• Supports all aspects of development of business opportunities, targets, prospecting

• Provides communication to stakeholders

• Assist in tradeshows (national & local) and Industry conference/meetings, website info, literature development 25%

 

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

 

• 4-year college degree (technical or Chemistry preferred)

• 7 or more years of experience in a technical sales, product management role or technical product concentration in the focused industry space

• Demonstrated technical knowledge in area of specialization

• Demonstrated selling skills & multi-tasking abilities

• Proficient computer skills including MS Office Applications: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

• Experience dealing with customers at multiple levels, both internal and external, and supplier partners

• Strong interpersonal skills, both oral and written, necessary to communicate effectively

• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle complex projects and multi-task responsibilities

• Ability to manage detailed work activities and be persistent in following up on details

• Possess tact, integrity, and high business ethics.

• Understand current issues and align sales efforts with stated company objectives.
