Job Responsibilities:
The Payroll Lead will be responsible for the processing of assigned Canada and US payrolls and other payroll initiatives such as leading year-end and compliance activities, project support, and process documentation.

Payroll Lead Responsibilities
Oversee and verify the accurate preparation and processing of assigned Canada and US payrolls (weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly) for hourly and salaried employees in both union and non-union environments, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations
Review payroll inputs including garnishments, incentive payouts, deferred incentive payments, stock options, hypo tax, shadow payroll reporting, and pension-related payrolls
Lead payroll balancing and reconciliation processes in accordance with year-end calendars; oversee and audit payrolls prepared by other team members as required
Approve and ensure timely reconciliation of 3rd party remittances in alignment with statutory deadlines
Ensure accuracy and integrity of payroll records through periodic audits and oversight
Review and validate year-end payroll deliverables including T4s and W-2s, as well as any tax form amendments
Analyze and approve monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll reports for internal/external stakeholders including Finance, Operations, and government agencies
Oversee testing and validation of payroll system changes and configuration updates
Ensure comprehensive and current documentation of payroll processes, Division notes, and run books
General Responsibilities
Act as a key point of contact for escalated payroll inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate resolutions and high employee satisfaction
Lead or participate in payroll-related system implementations, including requirements gathering, test planning, and validation of results
Maintain and oversee the accuracy of payroll documentation, including processing instructions and compliance checklists
Provide guidance and mentorship to payroll team members, supporting performance improvement and knowledge development
Demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strong attention to detail
Prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively to meet strict payroll deadlines and service level agreements
Who we are looking for
Minimum 5 years of experience overseeing large-scale US and Canadian payroll operations, supporting organizations with 2,500+ employees
Demonstrated exposure to complex payroll scenarios, including expatriate and commuter payrolls
Proven experience leading payroll teams through transitions, process improvements, and efficiency initiatives
Advanced Excel skills with a strong ability to analyze data, create reporting tools, and ensure data integrity
Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Your preferred qualifications
Active PCP or FPC designation required, working towards CPM/CPP an asset
