Law Clerks conduct legal research, draft opinions and orders, and provide professional support to the court. Law clerks serving more than two years may advance to*Senior Law Clerk status*. ** *Key Responsibilities* * Research and analyze laws, court decisions, briefs, and legal authorities. * Prepare briefs, legal memoranda, draft opinions, and orders for the judge. * Compile references and citations for legal determinations. * Confer with the judge on legal theories, document construction, and order preparation. * Attend court sessions, assist in jury instruction preparation, and maintain case records. * May assist in courtroom duties such as recording testimony or serving as bailiff. * May transcribe proceedings and/or maintain the judge’s law library. ** *Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities* * Knowledge of general law, state law, precedent, and sources of legal reference. * Understanding of trial court practices, rules, and procedures. * Excellent legal research, writing, and analysis skills. * Strong communication skills, both written and oral. * Ability to work respectfully with judges, attorneys, staff, and the public. * Proficiency with legal research software, Microsoft Office, and courtroom technology. * Ability to manage confidential information with discretion. ** *Working Conditions & Physical Demands* * Work is performed in an office and courtroom setting. * Primarily sedentary with occasional walking, standing, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs. * Some positions may require extended computer use or retrieving files from high shelves. *Qualifications* * *Required:*Juris Doctor (JD) * *Required:*Demonstrated legal research experience * *Required:*Excellent writing skills * *Considered:*New graduates and experienced attorneys **Title:** *Law Clerk I* **Location:** *Great Falls* **Requisition ID:** *25141948*
