The Minnesota Tax Court is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time paid Appeals Court Attorney/Law Clerk.
Under general supervision by a tax court judge, contribute to the effective and efficient operation of the Minnesota Tax Court by performing professional legal research and other related clerical and administrative tasks in the preparation of memoranda, opinions and orders for tax court judges concerning the cases before them. This includes drafting legal opinions, attending oral arguments and conferences, reading transcripts and memoranda, researching the law, summarizing facts, and analyzing legal issues; performing courtroom and scheduling duties as assigned; operating technology during remote hearings; maintaining confidentiality; and other duties as assigned.
This position is eligible for up to a 50% hybrid telework arrangement. With a telework agreement, onsite attendance will be required for team meetings or as requested by management to meet business needs. Completion of a telework agreement will be required. **Minimum Qualifications**
+ JD from an ABA-accredited law school upon first day of employment.
+ Demonstrated legal writing and research skills, including use of Westlaw.
+ Demonstrated knowledge or experience with legal concepts and the meaning and significance of various types of legal documents, such as contracts.
+ Demonstrated experience drafting clear, concise, and accurate legal documents.
**Minimum qualifications assessed at interview:**
+ Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work on several projects simultaneously.
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships while representing the court in a respectful manner.
+ Ability to operate technology allowing hearings or trials to be conducted remotely, when necessary.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Coursework and/or work experience in individual and business taxation.
+ Knowledge of and experience with a variety of computer software applications, such as electronic mail and calendaring systems, Windows Operating System, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, and Adobe Acrobat.
+ Trial experience (including clinical experience in a trial setting).
**Physical Requirements**
Requires occasionally transporting such articles as file boxes and laptops or heavier materials with help from others and/or moving light objects frequently. Even though the weights being lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job in this category may require moving or remaining in a stationary position to a significant degree while working with legal files and research materials.
