Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Orion, MI on a full-time basis.
The Role:
Industrial Engineer will work directly with production, engineering, and Core Teams in implementing lean manufacturing systems. They will analyze throughput data to help departments improve performance. They will be responsible to prepare standardized work for future products alongside the core team and help to launch great products. In steady state, they will drive continuous improvement projects.
What You'll Do:
Coordinate problem solving activity on plant floor level with multi-department resources
Support as necessary in-plant tryouts, process changes, and implementation plans to resolve ergonomic issues
Assist in establishing operational methods and work standards using various measurement techniques
Analyze throughput data to determine plant bottlenecks then work with the floor to eliminate them
Analyze existing operations and proposes cost justified improvements
Optimize use of floor space, materials, personnel, and equipment
Assist in planning new facilities, operations and/or relocation of same
Provide information for various management systems
Regular contact with others outside the work group
Monitor adherence to recommended safety procedures and good housekeeping
Recommend changes to work station, labor, and layouts to reduce waste and cost per car
Work alongside Core team, manufacturing engineering team, engineering team to establish lean work station set-up including standardized work
Establish execution plans to complete the job and or/project
Coordinate input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions
Keep up to date on current product developments and trends in areas of expertise
Actively identify new areas for learning and take advantage of learning opportunities
Attend/participate in LAUNCH activities in Warren, MI including but not limited to Meetings, Reviews, Builds
Knowledge of MGO and part routings
Understanding of line balancing
Respond to Supplier and Engineering inquiries
Assist in training launch follow-up team members
Complete special projects / scenarios as needed
Support Floor Readiness for SORP


Additional Job DescriptionRequired Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or related environment
2–3 years’ experience as an Industrial Engineer in an automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment or equivalent
Highly developed oral & written communication skills
High level of interpersonal skills
Project management skills
High level of analytical ability
Familiarity of Standardize Work
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience
Knowledge of and experience in Standard Time Data Systems (STDS)
Knowledge of and experience in Assembly Processing Systems (APS)
Knowledge and experiences in Throughput Analysis
Knowledge of work measurement and work standards
Knowledge of basic manufacturing and assembly processes
Knowledge of computer software (Office suite and engineering software)
Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required
Knowledge of Global Launch Process
