**Summary:**
**Administers and leads the System-wide Laser Safety Program to ensure the safe, effective, and compliant use of Class 3B and Class 4 laser systems across all clinical environments, including perioperative services, procedural areas, and outpatient clinics. Acts as the facility’s designated Laser Safety Officer (LSO), serving as a clinical laser operator when needed. Develops and implements comprehensive laser safety policies, coordinates education and credentialing of laser users, and conducts safety audits in accordance with ANSI Z136.3 (American National Standards Institute), AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), and The Joint Commission. Collaborates closely with interdisciplinary clinical teams, department leadership, and external vendors to maintain operational readiness and patient safety. Required:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in addition to the experience stated below.
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for the State of Ohio.
3 years of experience in a clinical, surgical, or healthcare setting working with laser technology.
Certified Medical Laser Safety Officer (CMLSO) or obtains within 12 months of hire.
Experience with ANSI Z136.3, AORN guidelines, OSHA regulations, NFPA codes, and other relevant safety standards.
Demonstrated experience developing and conducting safety training programs.
Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to various MetroHealth sites/facilities.
Preferred:
Prior experience as a Laser Safety Officer.
Physical Requirements:
May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.
May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required.
May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion.
Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications.
Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents.
