Summary

Position Highlights:

 

The Language Access and Communication Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring that patients with limited English proficiency (LEP) have equal access to healthcare services at the Center. This position is responsible for coordinating the delivery of language services (including interpretation and translation) to meet the needs of patients, families, and staff.  The coordinator will work closely with clinical and non-clinical departments to ensure effective communication and provide language assistance, while also ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations regarding language access in healthcare.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Process language access requests

Promptly answer language access requests received through the department’s central system. Send interpreter requests to the appropriate service providers (internal or agency) from beginning to end. Process document translation requests from beginning to end. Monitor patient schedules, virtual health schedules, early surgeries schedules to assign the appropriate human resource. Document, maintain and update appropriate internal platforms or logs.

 

Provide administrative/support assistance

Coordinate with clinics where auxiliary or assistive devices might be needed. Monitor and update leadership when assistive devices need to be replaced, fixed or added. Refer customer questions to the appropriate team member within the Language Access department. Review external vendor’s invoices against internal logs for accuracy. Support language access support for workforce needs (interpreting and translation).

 

Medical documentation translation

Oversees Translation Services processes ensuring timely and accurate completion of all translations completed by internal Translator and external vendors. Process all translation requests received via the Translation Request on-line form. Assign projects to an internal or external translator or agency. Ensures that documents are prepared for project assignment. Documents all project communications.

 

Credentials and Qualifications:

 

Associate’s degree in Modern Languages, Translation Studies, or other related fields required. Two years of experience coordinating operational tasks in a group setting.
