Overview What You’ll Do The Landfill Operator oversees daily operations at the Ascension Islands landfill, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards. This position involves coordinating waste disposal,activities, managing a team of operators, and maintaining equipment to support efficient landfill operations. The Landfill Operator will also monitor and report on landfill conditions, implement waste management best practices. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities: Oversee daily landfill operations, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards. Supervise as needed a team of landfill operators, providing direction, training, and support. Monitor and maintain landfill equipment, coordinating repairs and maintenance as needed. Implement waste disposal best practices and monitor landfill conditions regularly. Prepare and submit operational reports to management, including any incidents or safety concerns. Ensure all team members follow safety protocols and use protective equipment as required. Coordinate with external contractors for specialized tasks when necessary. Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Education: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. High school diploma or equivalent required. Certifications: Waste Management or Environmental Safety are advantageous. Experience: Experience in waste management, environmental science, or landfill operations is preferred, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a supervisory role. Skills and Technology Used: Knowledge of landfill operations, waste management practices, and environmental regulations. Strong leadership and team supervision skills, with the ability to train and support staff. Proficient in English for effective communication, both written and verbal. Computer proficiency, especially with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) for record-keeping and reporting. Other Requirements: Basic mechanical knowledge for operating and maintaining landfill equipment. Ability to identify and implement safety and environmental best practices.
