Position Objective:
Conducts bedside lactation rounds daily and consults with mothers having breastfeeding problems.

When providing breastfeeding support and teaching to breastfeeding patients and families utilize knowledge of personality, counseling skills, and family and group theory.Consistently and thoroughly assesses patients/families to collect data and identify learning needs according to established standards and policies.Develops and individualizes a breastfeeding plan of care for each mother-baby couple in accordance with established standards, appropriate prioritization of problems/needs, and mutually agreed upon goals.Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of the breastfeeding plan of care, making revisions and recommendations based on analysis of patient responses to interventions.Participates appropriately in communication and decision-making activities of the lactation services and the maternal-child health service.Selects appropriate breastfeeding related supplies for retail sale and for rental. Over-sees breast pump rentals and retail sales within lactation services.Creates a milieu that promotes learning for staff and patients. plans, teaches and conducts in-service education for staff and students including orientation of new staff.Plans, organizes and delivers lactation services to all breastfeeding patients, both in patient and out-patient.Possesses excellent oral and written communications skills. Participates in unit shared governance according to departmental standards. Establishes effective collaborative relationships with other members of the health team as it relates to breastfeedingParticipates in quality assurance programs to monitor the caliber of the program. Oversees the financial performance of lactation services.Educational/Experience Requirements:
Adherence to credentialing requirements of AAMC as stated in the nursing bylaws.Current licensure as a registered nurse by Maryland Board of Nursing or current graduate of Medical School.RequiredLicense/Certifications:
