The Lead Library Technician supports a large-scale inventory project at a major library in Richmond, VA by providing direct supervision and workflow coordination for a team of Library Technicians. This on-site position plays a key role in overseeing daily operations, ensuring quality control, and maintaining efficiency across all inventory-related activities.
This role requires experience using an Integrated Library System (ILS) to manage inventory tasks such as verifying bibliographic records, updating item locations, and ensuring data accuracy. The Lead Technician is also responsible for training staff, reviewing work for quality and consistency, and maintaining detailed project documentation.
Responsibilities:
Supervise Library Technicians performing inventory management tasksCoordinate daily workflows related to retrieval, barcoding, catalog verification, and location updatesProvide training and guidance to technicians on inventory procedures, barcoding, and preservation stabilization/re-housing methodsConduct quality control reviews of staff work to ensure accuracy and completenessMaintain detailed records of work completed and submit statistical reports as required RequirementsPrior experience supervising or leading library staff in a technical services or inventory-related roleProficiency using an Integrated Library System (ILS) for catalog searching, record verification, and location managementStrong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency across high-volume, repetitive tasksAbility to train, motivate, and guide staff in accordance with established workflows and project goals
