Labourer 2 - WWC Maintenance

Highlights of the job

Wastewater Collection Maintenance has up to 1 permanent and 2 temporary Labourer 2 positions (up to 11 months) working out of the Aurum site in Edmonton, AB.

 

This position is primarily responsible for supporting the System Maintenance team and Inspections & Investigations crews in day to day activities related to the maintenance of the wastewater collection system. The labourer may also be responsible for working with other WWC Maintenance teams as required. This is a skilled work role which involves assisting in the operation and maintenance of heavy duty drainage system cleaning and inspection equipment. Work of this class is normally performed with little supervision, and incumbents are accountable for executing written and verbal instructions given by the Vactor Operator or MTV Camera Operator or Labourer 3.

What you’d be responsible for

The Labourer 2 is accountable to the Manager of Wastewater Collection System Maintenance and will be accountable for, but not limited to:

 

Assisting the Vactor Operator or MTV Operator in the day-to-day activities which includes; high pressure flushing, releasing plugged mainlines, pumping catch basins, drainage emergency response, mainline CCTV sewer inspections, performing conditional assessments Complete maintenance tasks on storm water management facilities and working with other related equipment that may be used in the maintenance of the wastewater collection system. Perform routine labouring work associated with the operation and upkeep of the Vactor units MTV units or other equipment utilized in Wastewater Collection Maintenance.Assisting with daily checks/inspections and lubrication needs and minor maintenance requirements.Carrying out daily checks/inspections and lubrication needs and minor maintenance requirements.Occasionally responsible to provide guidance/training to new or less experienced Labourers assigned to the crew. Responsible for contact with the appropriate Team Leader in order to communicate or escalate issues as necessary. Reporting all deficiencies (assets and equipment) through IVARA, GeoFit and the Team Leader.Possess a thorough knowledge of the equipment, tools, and materials used, including knowledge of drainage systems. Ability to rate up as an MTV operator, Vactor Operator certification by attaining a valid Class 3 drivers license with air break endorsement within 12 months.Ability to work Standby on a rotational basis to meet operational needs.

 What’s required to be successful

Grade 12 or GED or equivalent. Alberta Environment Water or Wastewater Collection Certification – Level 1. For candidates that do not have either certification you must be actively working towards achieving Level 1 within 24 months.Valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Ability to qualify for and maintain a valid EPCOR driver's permit.The permanent position requires a minimum of one year of experience in any aspects of Water and Wastewater Collections Systems maintenance.Those with less experience will be considered for a temporary position. Must be current with all compliance training as required within Water Services.Intermediate knowledge and skill using computers and software programs such as; IVARA, , GeoFit, SWP App, MS Office suite of products (i.e. word, outlook and excel), Granite.Sound knowledge of the methods, practices and rules of the safe operation of the assigned equipment.Proven ability to operate equipment skillfully, safely and in conformance with applicable laws or regulations.

You have a strong commitment to safety and have the ability to work unsupervised in a busy and occasionally stressful environment. Those hired in a temporary position will be placed on a progression pay scale that is commensurate with the employees direct and indirect experience ($27.51 to $35.34).
