Job Summary
The entry level laboratory technician position is designed to train the new technician on one of the five (5) analytical labs in the quality control (QC) laboratory. In this role, they will prepare process and/or finished product samples; perform analytical testing using instrumental and wet chemistry procedures, and record results using computerized data systems. The entry level laboratory technician must have completed training on one lab prior to their transition to the Laboratory Technician II.

RequirementsThe willingness and ability to work a rotating 12-hour shift including nights, weekends, holidays and overtimeSample preparation – Preparing and analyzing samples according to analytical procedures.Equipment operation – Operating basic laboratory equipment like balances, centrifuges, pipettes, pH meters,Actively participate in training efforts and safety initiatives/engagementsData collection and recording - Attention to detail and accuracy of following procedures, proper analytical techniques and computer entryGood judgment and communication in reporting errors, unusual conditions or events to supervision and production departments in a timely mannerStock management – maintaining inventory of lab supplies and reagents in work area on each shift workedStrong computer skills including accurate data entry and the use of databases and MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook)Ability to follow complicated technical instructionsDemonstrate sufficient math skills to perform calculations associated with lab testingMaintain proper housekeeping and cleanliness in all work areasWork safely to prevent on-the-job injuries by complying with all department and plant safety policesReact immediately to eliminate any hazards, unsafe equipment and/or acts. Additionally ensures that any accidents, injuries or near misses are reported immediately to area supervisionDemonstrate ability to accept instruction, coaching, and constructive criticism as tools for continuous improvementPerform other duties as assigned by the quality department managementMust have the ability to relocate equipment and supplies and the ability to walk long distances. Involves standing for long periods of time and climbing stairs.
