Job Title: Laboratory Quality Assurance (QA) CoordinatorStatus: Full-Time
Position Summary:
The Laboratory Quality Assurance (QA) Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all aspects of quality assurance within the Sinai Hospital Laboratory. This includes monitoring specimen workflow processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, analyzing quality data, and driving continuous quality improvement. The QA Coordinator will develop and maintain SOPs, perform audits, track performance metrics, and collaborate with staff to enhance patient safety and laboratory effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:Quality Data Management:
Collect, compile, and analyze quality data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
Generate monthly and annual statistical reports to track errors and key performance indicators.
Create and maintain dashboards and procedures for routine and specialized quality reporting.
Performance Improvement & Reporting:
Prepare and present monthly performance improvement reports at QA meetings.
Produce special reports and documentation as needed to support quality initiatives.
Organize and maintain accessible, clear, and survey-ready data for inspections and evaluations.
Audits & Compliance:
Conduct internal quality and safety audits, track corrective actions, and ensure follow-up.
Maintain and update QA manuals, SOPs, and controlled documents within the policy management system.
Monitor compliance with accreditation and regulatory agency standards (e.g., CAP, CLIA, OSHA).
Incident & Recall Management:
Investigate, track, and trend MIDAS occurrence reports and vendor recall notices.
Prepare formal responses and documentation for the RASMAS system and internal reviews.
Communicate findings and resolutions with stakeholders and vendors.
Equipment & Validation Support:
Assist with validation of laboratory equipment, including linearity, precision, and accuracy testing.
Standardize test methodologies and maintain validation records and equipment maintenance schedules.
Support LIS testing and quality initiatives related to equipment implementation and upgrades.
Education & Training:
Develop and distribute educational materials regarding test utilization and process changes.
Support the training of staff, nurses, and physicians on new procedures and lab protocols.
Contribute to the development and monitoring of competency testing programs.
Proficiency Testing Oversight:
Monitor microbiology proficiency testing (PT) enrollment and compliance with CAP requirements.
Enter and review PT survey results, investigate unsatisfactory outcomes, and initiate corrective actions.
Qualifications:Education:
Required: Associate’s Degree in a laboratory-related field
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field
Experience:
Required: 3–5 years of clinical laboratory experience, preferably with QA responsibilities
Licensure/Certifications:
Required: Valid MLS, MT, or MLT Certification
