BSD MED - Hematology and Oncology - Franses Research Staff
About the Department
Within the Section of Hematology/Oncology, the Franses laboratory is dedicated to understanding how the tumor microenvironment (non-cancer cells present within tumors) impact tumor behavior, and how we can exploit this knowledge for improved therapies or biomarkers. The laboratory uses cell and animal model systems, molecular biology tools (in cultured cells and animal models), and state-of-the-art translational tools such as spatial omics to probe tumor biology.
Job Summary
Responsibilities
Works in conjunction with Dr. Franses and other technical and administrative staff to ensure the overall laboratory functions effectively.
Serves as a specialist on laboratory methods and equipment functions.
Instructs lab members in techniques, instruments, methods and procedures.
Supervises collection and maintenance of data and/or specimens and analysis of data.
Orders equipment/supplies.
Sets up and perform experiments, interacting with other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
Uses subject matter and best practices knowledge to perform lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. Works independently to assist with project design.
Solves complex problems relating to the administration of projects, including planning new procedures, adapting existing procedures to the needs of the project, and making significant contributions to methodology.
Performs other related work as needed.

Advanced degree in biology or related biomedical discipline.
Experience:
Experience with various cellular and molecular biology techniques, (e.g., cell culture, western blotting, PCR).
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
Experience with basic office/lab computer software, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and Power Point.
