The Opportunity:

Avantor is seeking a dedicated, science-savvy Laboratory Manager, to become a key part of our team. You will be based initially in Slough, followed by new premises with a planned site-move to Windleshamin Surrey. In this dynamic role, you will assist the daily operations of our laboratories, ensuring smooth workflow, managing inventory, and addressing any challenges that arise. Your attention to detail and proactive approach will play a crucial part in maintaining a high-performing lab environment. Please note, that this role does not involve scientific tasks or research, but does require hands-on involvement with lab furniture, small equipment, materials and cold storage as part of managing the laboratory spaces and functions within.

The Team

You will work alongside other Laboratory Managers and the Head of UK Patient Solutions Operations, to support operational efficiency in the laboratory, serve as the point of contact and provide in-the-lab support to scientists in deployment of laboratory 5S methodologies. You will offer hands-on support in optimising laboratory space, consumables and cold storage.

This role is part of our Lab and Production Services department, supporting major pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide in the Research and Development sector of the Life Sciences industry.

WHAT YOU WILL DO ON A TYPICAL DAY?

Manage operations across Building 216 laboratories in Slough, serving as the primary contact for scientists on materials flow, facilities maintenance, equipment availability and process optimisationMaintain laboratory operational efficiency by coordinating with facility maintenance suppliers and equipment maintenance teams with minimal disruptionIdentify equipment for disposal or storage and assessing lab space for optimised ways of workingContribute to new equipment procurement, assisting impact analysis with HSE&W, IT and Facilities and maintaining an up-to-date inventory of UK Research equipment via the OneSource PortalAct as an in-the-lab point of contact for the integration of new equipment / move of equipmentSupport scientists with equipment maintenance schedules and OneSource Portal updatesWork with scientists and local teams to support the purchase, storage and tracking of biological samples, including assisting with sample auditsLiaise with scientists, providing help in the processing of material shipmentsProvide on-the-ground logistics assistance in preparation for a site move to Windlesham (lab supply and samples)Contribute to continuous improvement projects focused on equipment, change management and optimising people processesThe role will be a mix of in and around the Labs and/or sat at a desk.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL AT AVANTOR? Education: A bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent laboratory experience.
 Experience:Previous experience at a senior laboratory technician level or above in a multi-disciplinary laboratory environment.Proven ability to partner with other teams and suppliers, delivering results in a matrix environment.Experience managing multiple internal and external partners/stakeholders.Excellent customer service skills and a collaborative work style.Knowledge of SHE requirements and GxP regulations.Proficiency with Microsoft Office
