Job Title Laboratory Coordinator III Agency Texas A&M University Department Chemistry Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location College Station, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description Here’s a Glimpse of the Job We are seeking a Technical Laboratory Coordinator III to co-manage the First Year Chemistry and Organic Chemistry laboratory instructional programs, with a focus on CHEM 117, 119, and 120. This role involves assisting in the administration of laboratory courses, including the coordination and training of teaching assistants, as well as the development of instructional materials. Key responsibilities include maintaining and updating laboratory safety certifications, manuals, and teaching resources. The coordinator will also support the creation of pre-laboratory presentations and instructional media. Additionally, this position oversees daily laboratory operations—managing staff support, ensuring quality control, and supervising student assistants. Opportunities to Contribute: + Hires and trains student workers and Teaching Assistants, providing instruction in laboratory safety (Category II safety training), experimental setups, and equipment usage. + Prepares performance evaluations for teaching assistants and recommends pay raises and/or performance awards. + Coordinates the student makeup requests for Freshman (General) and Organic Chemistry laboratory program. + Maintains accurate records of laboratory materials, equipment, and chemical inventory, ensuring compliance with safety standards. + Supervises the handling, preparation, and disposal of chemicals, solvents, and unknowns for lab experiments, as well as chemical waste management. + Directs chemical storage, safety labeling, inventory control, and ensures safe, efficient operations. + Enforces standard operating procedures to ensure lab efficiency, safety, and cost optimization. + Recommends, orders, and manages the acquisition and installation of new or replacement instrumentation in assigned laboratories (117, 119, and 120). + Develops procedures for effective use of laboratory instrumentation by students, Teaching Assistants, and student workers, and troubleshoots or schedules repairs for malfunctioning equipment. + Assists in developing and testing new experiments and curricula, including collaborating with technical coordinators for the purchase of necessary chemicals, apparatus, and supplies. + Evaluates experimental modifications to minimize hazardous waste and ensures updates to instructional materials, such as laboratory manuals and media programs. + Analyzes complex visual data in a quantitative and objective manner. + Administers the lab software system and assists with managing long-term organizational efforts. + Participates in the preparation and review of laboratory final examinations and supports overall lab administration, ensuring adherence to established standards and safety procedures. Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or equivalent combination of education and experience + Three years of related experience. + Ability to bend and/or stoop for long periods. + Ability to lift and/or move moderate to heavy weight objects. A well-qualified candidate will also possess: + Master’s degree or Doctorate Degree in chemistry. + Five years of related experience in laboratory operations. + Knowledge and ability to handle chemicals in a safe manner. + Experience developing safety management plan. + Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. + Knowledge of computers and cloud computing environments. + Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment. + Excellent oral and written communication skills. + Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
