Job Description
The primary role of a Lab Technician I is to perform routine medical laboratory tests, essential for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This position typically operates under the supervision of a medical technologist.
ResponsibilitiesSet up, adjust, maintain, and clean medical laboratory equipment.Analyze the results of tests and experiments to ensure conformity to specifications using special mechanical and electrical devices.Collect, gather, and record test data to issue reports that include charts, graphs, and narratives.Obtain specimens, cultivate, isolate, and identify microorganisms for analysis.Examine cells stained with dye to locate abnormalities.Consult with a pathologist to determine a final diagnosis when abnormal cells are found.Essential SkillsStrong verbal and written communication skills.Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.Basic ability to work independently and manage time effectively.Knowledge of information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries and diseases.Basic ability to analyze data and document accurately.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required.Associate's degree in medical technology or vocational training preferred.0-2 years of experience required.Experience as a medical laboratory technician in a clinical laboratory - core lab as a generalist.Experience with Epic Beaker, ASCP, AMT, GMP, CLIA, blood bank, microbiology.ASCP or AMT certification preferred.Work Environment
The position is based at a Mobile Infirmary Free Standing Emergency Department. The work schedule is primarily 2nd shift from 1pm to 9pm, Monday through Friday, with a possibility of one weekend per month or as needed. The lab processes approximately 500 samples per day, including hem, coag, urinalysis, core, and molecular tests. You will work alongside another technician. The role has opened due to short staffing and FMLA leave.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saraland, Alabama.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.50/hr.
