Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. in Rockville seeks a Lab Technician I for Fisher BioServices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare aliquots of samples and perform other laboratory procedures.
Communicate with supervisor about any sample discrepancies found and assist in resolving them.
Receive, process, and store biological specimens using a variety of database applications.

Basic Minimum Qualifications

Knowledgeable in handling infectious substances.
Proficient in good aseptic technique.
Flexible to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with temperature-sensitive materials.
Familiarity with LIMS and Good Laboratory Practices.
Experience with DNA and/or RNA extraction.
Background in working with human blood and blood products.

Education/Experience

Preferred: BS in a Biological Science or equivalent experience.
Requires 1 year of previous laboratory work experience.

Work Conditions/Physical Requirements

Work in cold environment with dry ice, liquid nitrogen, hazardous agents, dust, fumes, temperature changes.
Must participate in the Hepatitis B vaccination program.
Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Capable of processing and handling materials frozen on dry ice (-78°C) or liquid nitrogen (-195°C) for up to 6 hours per day.
Must be willing and able to work overtime when volume justifies additional labor hours.
Use of Nitrile Gloves and other Personal Protective Equipment is required.
Must be able to use a computer for up to 6 hours per day.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Maryland is $17.89–$26.83.
