Job Description
As a Lab Technician, you will play a crucial role in monitoring, supporting, and ensuring compliance with food safety and quality requirements daily. You will lead by example in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and work cohesively within a team to drive improvements in food safety and quality. This position requires a willingness to take on new challenges and learn new skills.
ResponsibilitiesEnsure both food safety and quality of products and processes on a regular basis through physical inspection and analytical testing, including checks on color, pH, seal integrity, temperature, date code, X-ray monitoring, weight, label accuracy, allergens, and cleanliness.Document all food safety and quality checks as required and ensure all stakeholders follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), good housekeeping, and company policies.Perform hold and release of products after thorough review and assessment for food safety and quality, providing feedback and guidance for corrective actions when non-conformance issues are found.Conduct pre-operation inspection of line equipment and processing environment at the start of shift or during line changeover, including environment testing such as ATP and allergen tests.Collect retain samples from the production line and perform product evaluation at the end of product shelf life.Perform proper calibration of laboratory equipment by set frequency and recordkeeping.Take appropriate actions to correct deviations or notify FSQ manager.Act as a key monitor for reinforcing GMPs throughout plant and warehouse facilities, performing direct GMP observations and addressing discrepancies with appropriate departments.Reinforce GMPs during operation hours and lead GMP by example.Perform GMP inspections of facility areas as assigned and communicate findings and actions taken to address GMP issues.Reinforce policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, third-party audit requirements, and internal standards.Actively support preparation for all third-party audits such as FDA, USDA, Organic, SQF, and customer audits, following documented protocols.Audit food safety and quality records documented by operators.Seek ways to improve internal processes, documentation, and knowledge transfer, maintaining laboratory and work areas organized and identifying opportunities for improvement.Perform other duties as assigned, including acting as backup for FSQ lead and team members, assisting in new hire and refresher trainings, mock-recalls, and special projects.Essential SkillsKnowledge of food science and food safety.Experience in GMP and microbiology.Ability to use laboratory equipment and instruments.Additional Skills & QualificationsAbility to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.Ability to perform repetitive tasks with hands and arms.Work Environment
The Lab Technician will primarily work in a food lab/kitchen environment, involving exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials. Safety protocols and personal protective equipment must be followed. The shift is from 5am to 1:30pm, Monday to Friday, with Saturdays dependent on production needs. The work environment includes varying temperatures from 5 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit, exposure to potentially dangerous machinery, and high noise levels. Floors may be damp and slick, requiring physical tasks such as bending, stooping, pulling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr.
