Job Description
Job Summary
The Lab Technician performs routine and specialized laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, and other specimens to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of disease. Under appropriate supervision, this role supports accurate and timely test processing through specimen preparation, test execution, equipment maintenance, and quality control. The Lab Technician follows established protocols and regulatory requirements and may assist with training, chain-of-custody collections, and interdepartmental support to ensure consistent and reliable laboratory operations.
Essential Functions
Qualifications
Associate Degree in Medical Technology, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or related field required or Completion of a formal military Medical Laboratory Specialist training program (minimum 50 weeks) and Medical Laboratory Specialist designation required 0-2 years of clinical laboratory experience preferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of laboratory testing principles, instrumentation, and procedures. Ability to follow detailed instructions, prioritize tasks, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Proficient in using laboratory information systems and standard office software. Knowledge of safety regulations, infection control, and HIPAA compliance. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining orderly and accurate records.Licenses and Certifications
MLT - Medical Technician - ASCP required or Certified Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)-AMT required
