**Position Description**
We have an opportunity for a Lab Research Project Manager in the High-resolution, High-throughput electron cryomicroscopy (cryo-EM) sub-core of the Nanoscale Biomedical Imaging Core Facility. The successful candidate will have experience with use of cryo-EM for high-resolution protein structure determination, will facilitate use of the sub-core.
**Here's What You'll Get To Do:**
· Under guidance from experienced staff, maintain and continuously update a cryo-EM high-resolution, high-throughput structure determination pipeline
· Train users to operate state-of-the-art cryo-EM microscopes and specimen preparation equipment, including an automated 200 kV cryo-EM specimen screening microscope and a 300 kV automated cryo-EM data collection microscope
· Facilitate high-throughput data collection for cryo-EM research studies
· Participate in collaborative projects to develop new cryo-EM approaches, working with research groups and instrument manufacturers
· Work with research groups to determine high-resolution molecular structures for
biomedically important targets
· Work with service engineers to ensure smooth operation of state-of-the-art cryo-EM
infrastructure
· Be part of a team of facility staff, with opportunities to cross train on numerous
instruments
· Participate in the smooth administration of a core facility
· Perform image analysis for challenging structure determination problems and teach
trainees how to perform this analysis
· Provide troubleshooting expertise as required to ensure integrity of imaging and image analysis systems
· Maintain effective communication with students, postdoctoral fellows, scientific staff, principal investigators, and service engineers
**Here's What You'll Need:**
· An MSc or PhD with experience with cryo-EM for protein structure determination
· Minimum of 1 year of experience with cryo-EM.
· Good technical skills in freezing specimens and computational image analysis
· Experience with software packages such as cryoSPARC and/or Relion
· Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment
· Attention to detail
· Excellent problem solving, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
· Proficiency with computers
· Demonstrated commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
**Employment Type** : Full time permanent 35 hours per week
