Job DescriptionThe Laboratory Manager will oversee the internal and external operations of the laboratories, ensuring their functionality and efficiency. This role involves managing laboratory services, instrument services, facilities, health, safety, environmental concerns, and building security, in collaboration with our operations partners.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensure the organization of the common laboratory area.Coordinate instrument services, consumables, and reagents for a laboratory of 25-30 scientists.Coordinate shipping and receipt of samples.Perform routine instrument maintenance and interface closely with external partners and vendors.Instrumentation includes, but is not limited to, centrifuges, automated liquid pipetting systems, sample purification systems, thermocyclers, PCR systems, and real-time PCR systems.Perform routine maintenance for the tissue culture suites, including BSC maintenance, disposal of liquid waste, stocking of hoods, and cleaning of water baths.Monitor reagent and consumable stock levels and perform regular stock audits to prevent overstocking or stockouts.Reagents and consumables include, but are not limited to, plastics, reagent kits for molecular biology assays such as qPCR, and tissue materials and reagents.Collaborate with purchasing and procurement teams to forecast inventory needs and manage reorder points for high-demand items.Ensure health and safety guidelines are adhered to; contribute to general lab cleanup and maintenance of high-traffic areas such as fume hoods.QualificationsMinimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a scientific or related field with 3-4 years of relevant laboratory experience.Proficiency in inventory management and procurement software (e.g., SAP, Ariba, Oracle, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel).Previous experience with routine maintenance of ThermoFisher QuantStudio 7 Pro, Fisher centrifuges (range of sizes), and KingFisher sample purification systems.Experience with stock management, forecasting, and data analysis.Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team and external partners.Preferred Qualifications:
Background and interest in mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, handling RNA, and qPCR techniques.Previous experience with routine maintenance of BioRad thermal cyclers, Applied Biosystems ProFlex PCR system, and Integra Viaflow and Mini96.Experience with electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) documentation.Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.Additional InformationThe position is Full Time, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm with overtime as needed.
