Responsibilities

This position performs a critical role to the outcomes of the Clinic Research Unit (CRU) clinical research studies. Hundreds of active studies are ongoing at any given time, all of which have unique and complex sample collection and processing requirements that must be meticulously managed. Responsible for the overall management of the CRU Processing Laboratories and associated Standard Operating Procedures. Responsible for managing all of the sample collection and processing needs for multiple, diverse research protocols using both standard and novel techniques. Possess and exhibit strong team management and interpersonal skills together with broad technical laboratory skills. Responsibilities include the day to day management of the physical facility including oversight of the laboratory quality assurance and quality control. Responsible, in conjunction with the investigators, for the coordination, support, and direction of the laboratory aspects of each CRU protocol. This includes the development of the laboratory protocol for the sample collection and processing needs of each individual protocol Provides technical direction to the Research Support Technicians in the laboratory and regular updates to the CRU Patient Care Staff. Includes frequent oral and written interaction with Mayo investigators and also external contacts for multi-center and industry initiated studies.



Qualifications

Requires BA or BS degree in Medical Technology with several years of clinical experience.  Chemistry or biology degrees will be considered with a significant clinical laboratory experience. 

Certification may be required to meet prevailing regulatory requirements. 

Must be highly organized, meticulous, efficient and work well both independently, often with minimal direction, and also as an effective team member. Will give input at CRU flow sheet meetings and in-services. Must be able to organize and carry out job tasks independently. Must possess good analytical problem-solving and communication skills (written and oral). Computer proficiency essential. Must exhibit a high degree of self-direction, motivation and initiative to develop the laboratory requirements of all CRU studies.
