Position Summary:
Nemacolin Resort is seeking a certified and experienced Swim Instructor to provide private, one-on-one swim lessons for guests of all ages. The Swim Instructor will create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment while teaching fundamental swimming techniques, water safety, and confidence-building skills.
This position requires an instructor who can adapt teaching methods to different age groups and skill levels, ensuring each guest progresses comfortably at their own pace. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, knowledgeable in swim instruction, and dedicated to delivering a luxury resort experience through high-quality, personalized swim coaching.
Key Responsibilities:
Swim Instruction & Lesson Execution
Conduct private, 1-on-1 swim lessons (35 minutes each), tailored to the guest’s skill level and goals. Adapt teaching techniques for infants, children, teens, and adults, focusing on their individual needs and comfort levels. Teach fundamental skills such as water acclimation, breath control, floating, balance, and various strokes. Progress students from beginner to advanced levels, helping them gain confidence and technique in the water. Provide specialized instruction, including stroke refinement, endurance training, and water survival techniques. Track and document student progress, providing constructive feedback.Safety & Risk Management
Maintain constant supervision of guests in the water, ensuring a safe and controlled environment. Enforce all Nemacolin Resort pool rules and safety protocols to prevent accidents. Be prepared to respond to emergencies, including performing rescues or CPR if necessary. Conduct pre-lesson safety checks on pool conditions and equipment.Guest Engagement & Communication
Greet guests warmly and establish rapport and trust with swimmers of all ages. Assess each guest’s comfort level and skill progression. Provide post-lesson feedback to guests or parents, including recommendations for future lessons. Answer guest questions regarding swim lessons, schedules, and policies.Facility & Equipment Maintenance
Ensure all swim equipment (kickboards, floatation devices, pool toys) is sanitized and stored properly. Maintain a clean and organized lesson area.Qualifications & Requirements:
Certifications (Required): American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (or equivalent) CPR & First Aid (for infants, children, and adults) WSI (Water Safety Instructor) certification preferred Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience as a swim instructor, lifeguard, or related aquatics role. Experience working with infants, children, and adults in a swim instruction or coaching capacity. Skills & Abilities: Ability to adapt teaching techniques for different age groups and learning styles. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with both children and adults. Confidence in demonstrating and instructing various swim techniques. Excellent safety awareness and emergency response skills. Ability to remain patient, encouraging, and energetic throughout lessons.
