Opportunity:
The ELL teacher is responsible for guiding English Language Learners toward gaining proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing. The ELL teacher, in conjunction with the Director of Student Services, is also responsible for overseeing the process for determining if students are English Language Learners (HLQ and NYSITELL) and students identified as English Language Learners (NYSESLAT). The ENL teacher will play a role in the instructional model within the school by working closely with the classroom teacher in a combination of ways by providing push-in services, or as a co-teacher as well as providing pull-out services for those students that require it. The selected teacher will be accountable for building strong and positive relationships with students and families, using data to tailor their instruction, and actively engaging in collaboration with their colleagues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ELL Program
+ In conjunction with appropriate administrative personnel, develop, update, and evaluate the overall goals and specific objectives of the ELL Program for reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
+ Test referred students and place into appropriate level(s) of the ELL core curriculum.
+ Notify parents regarding placement, progress and exit of students in the ELL Program.
+ Design an ongoing program to assess student progress and to modify instruction, which will allow ENL students to progress to the next higher level.
+ Create and deliver lessons grounded in researched best practice, current formative data and specially designed instruction.
+ Provide leadership in the development of ELL units of study curriculum that reflects the diversity of educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students being served
+ Provide professional development to staff
+ Introduce beginning of year caseloads to individual teachers
+ Interpret the ELL Curriculum to appropriate personnel.
+ Use technology as a way to foster effective two way communication with families and students.
+ Attend training as required to support program development.
+ Assist in the development of the ELL curriculum.
+ Review existing materials and select and evaluate textbooks and materials for the ENL Program.
+ Develop and distribute ELL materials and publications to other classroom teachers.
+ Provide assistance to classroom teachers instructing the "English-fluent" ELL student.
+ Upon request, demonstrates ELL teaching strategies in the regular classroom.
+ Interpret new advances in the ELL Program to Building Principals and teachers.
+ Facilitate communication within and between schools regarding the ELL Program.
+ Use interpretation services to translate messages sent to or from school.
+ Serve as District resource person for materials and techniques in the ELL instruction.
+ Member of the District's Seal of Biliteracy Committee.
Records and Reports
+ Report to the appropriate administrative personnel on the status of the District's ELL Program.
+ Maintain a complete up-to-date inventory of ELL books and materials.
+ Maintain complete up-to-date records of testing, student progress and teacher recommendations for students in the ELL Program.
+ Maintain monthly progress monitoring data on assigned students.
Funds and Facilities
+ In accordance with the ELL budget, collaborate around monies for program equipment, materials, resources, and conferences.
Community Relations
+ Interpret and explain the district's ELL Program to parents and the community at large.
+ Keep the community informed of the accomplishments of the ELL Program via the District and other local media devices.
+ Attend Student Led Conferneces with students and families
+ Assist in using technology to promote effective tow communication
Professional Growth
+ Attend meetings and conferences (local, state, and national) relating to the ELL Program when appropriate.
+ Attend district and/or BOCES professional development focusing on ELL (needed to maintain certification)
+ Assumes any other duties assigned by The Director of Student Services
Job Qualifications
+ NYS ELL Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
+ New York State teacher license/certification required or working toward certification.
+ Dual certification in Special Education or Literacy preferred.
+ Ability to work with a variety of learning abilities, including those with special needs and low skill level in a heterogeneously grouped classroom setting.
+ Demonstrated ability to work well in a team, especially with parents and community members
