Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30; August 15th-June 5thResponsibilities/Essential Functions:
+ Documentation/Reporting:
+ Maintains an up-to-date accurate file on all referrals, counseling, and action taken as required by law, policy, and administrative regulation.
+ Reports any suspected violations of the law (e.g. child abuse, illegal narcotics sales) to proper authority for immediate follow-up and action.
+ Maintains a working knowledge of state law, Board policy and administrative regulations regarding child welfare and attendance.
+ Utilizes existing directory of referral source to access for students in crisis situations (e.g. suicide threats, alcohol- or drug-induced traumas).
+ Case Management:
+ Coordinates activities with parents, school guidance counselors, teachers, school staff and other social workers and personnel, and conducts social service needs assessments and make necessary referrals to public welfare agencies, local social service organizations, mental health providers, etc., as appropriate.
+ Provides follow up and ensures that the troubled youth actually receives the service(s) needed (health, mental health, employment, legal, etc.).
+ Maintains minimum case load of 15 active cases of school generated clients with releases of information to schools.
+ Family Services:
+ Assists in developing strategies for involving parents in the school learning process.
+ Makes home and community visits for the purpose of gathering helpful information on a student's background, to reinforce positive attitudes of parents and students toward school, and to learn of any home problems that may have a bearing on student accomplishments in school.
+ Intervention:
+ Defuses potential problems involving before they manifest themselves overtly.
+ Serves as an advocate for students or adults, individually or collectively, in working with school personnel, parents/guardians, and courts, to resolve issue(s) of concern regarding a student.
+ Assists students in their adjustment to school and school expectations as needed.
+ Assists student problem solving in matters of attendance, misbehavior, tardiness and truancy, and makes every effort to gain their cooperation.
+ Coordinates the transition of students returning from shelters, residential treatment programs, juvenile detention centers, and non-school environments.
+ Assists in transition programs for students when they move from level to level (6-post secondary).
+ Co-facilitates and assists with confidential group counseling programs.
+ Staff Development:
+ Attends training as directed by the district.
+ Meets periodically with administrative director to review status of the program.
+ Conducts or assists in training of staff/perform in-service for staff on selected issues.
+ Provides educational presentation to classes.
+ Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
+ Associate's degree required
+ Experience background in multiple areas of family counseling, youth counseling, relationship skills, youth groups, community service, etc.
