Junior Structural Engineer (Nuclear Energy - REMOTE)

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a nationally recognized professional staffing firm, and we are recruiting for a Junior Structural Engineer to support a cutting-edge nuclear energy organization developing advanced small modular reactor (SMR) technology.
This direct hire position will contribute to the structural design and analysis of both Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures. The role offers full-time remote work with 10 - 15% travel to project sites or vendor locations within the contiguous United States.
Annual Base Salary: $110,000–$120,000 + full benefits package
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is required
Eligibility: Must be eligible to work under DOE 10 CFR Part 810
Position Summary:
This role applies advanced structural engineering principles to analyze and design nuclear facility structures in close collaboration with other engineering disciplines, vendors, and regulatory bodies to deliver compliant, high-quality engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform civil/structural analyses and design using industry tools and standards for steel, concrete, and composite structures.
Support the development of structural design documentation including calculations, specifications, design reports, and technical studies.
Apply relevant nuclear codes and standards such as ASCE 4, ASCE 43, ACI 349/318, AISC N690, ASCE 7, and IBC.
Interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and external structural consultants.
Support design reviews and contribute to resolving cross-discipline technical issues.
Ensure adherence to applicable QA/QC requirements including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1.
Participate in ongoing process improvement and methodology development related to structural design.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering. (Master’s degree would be a plus).
2+ years of relevant experience in structural design engineering; advanced degree may substitute for experience.
Demonstrated experience designing and analyzing concrete and steel structures using industry-standard methods.
Working knowledge of applicable civil/structural codes and standards used in nuclear or industrial design.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing and virtual collaboration.
Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
E.I.T. certification
Familiarity with engineering software such as SAP2000, LS-DYNA, or ANSYS.
Experience with computer programming tools (e.g., MATLAB or Python) for engineering applications.
Previous experience in a regulated environment (nuclear, DOE, or equivalent).
