Job Description
naThe successful candidate will join the Actuarial, Risk and Quants (ARQ) Team within the Liability Driven Investment (LDI) business. LDI has identified the need for a junior quantitative analyst to support ARQ in delivering on its core responsibilities.ARQ is primarily accountable for the management, valuation, and analysis of liabilities. In addition, the team leads the research and modelling required to generate quantitative, actionable intelligence for the portfolio management team. This role therefore offers exposure across the full spectrum of the LDI business.
The incoming analyst will be expected to embrace and contribute to LDI’s inclusive, collaborative culture that values open knowledge-sharing.
In addition, this position forms part of the Old Mutual Investment Group’s Investment Analyst Programme. Designed for individuals passionate about investments, the programme provides intensive training to develop new investment analysts. Its goal is to nurture and retain talented professionals, building a pipeline of future investment talent within Old Mutual Investment Group. The programme runs for 12 months, during which the successful candidate will be permanently employed.

Perform portfolio optimisation to generate risk-optimal portfoliosPerform regular quantitative valuations of financial instruments and liabilitiesPerform performance and attribution measurement on portfoliosDevelop and implement quantitative projects to support more advanced techniques in risk and portfolio management.Collaborate within the team to research new and/or alternative quantitative and algorithmic investing techniquesSupport reporting and technical marketing deliverables to clients and other internal and external stakeholdersManage and respond to technical client or consultant queriesWho You Are
A graduate in Actuarial/Financial/Mathematical fieldsEnthusiasm for professional development, including completion of a formal learnership, as a valued component of the Investment Analyst ProgrammeHave a firm appreciation of quantitative valuation techniques of fixed-income investments, and understand key concepts such as present values, yield curves and forward rates.Have strong mathematical academic record and skillsYou may also bring:
An Honours or Masters degree in financial/mathematical sciences or data science applications advantageousMachine-learning algorithm implementation experience (especially in a financial application) advantageous.Experience in coding languages such as VBA, C#, SQL and Python advantageousThe Strengths You’ll Bring
