Junior Laboratory Associate (Gunsalus & Piano Lab)

The Gunsalus and Piano Lab at NYU’s Center for Genomics and Systems Biology is looking for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Junior Laboratory Associate.
This position is for a trainee preparing for a research path. It will provide development of technical and analytical skills; supervision by senior scientists incorporating an individual development plan in support of training goals and those of the faculty mentor; and possible publication of research findings during the appointment period.
We are looking for energetic budding researchers with scientific curiosity, effective communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and organizational abilities who can manage a variety of tasks. Responsibilities will include maintenance of laboratory stocks; experimental investigation using molecular biology, genetics, and microscopy; and participation in regular lab meetings and journal clubs. Opportunities for independent projects will be available with demonstrated ability for independent work and critical thinking.
Projects in the Gunsalus and Piano Lab study the genetic and evolutionary mechanisms underlying germline and early embryonic development in the animal model organism C. elegans, using both genome-scale functional genomic and targeted molecular genetic approaches. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $58,656. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
The ideal candidate will have a BS or MS in Biology or a related field, 2 years of research experience in a laboratory environment, and familiarity with C. elegans.
