Role Definition
The Howden Group Holdings (HGH), Group IT Enterprise Architecture (EA) function is responsible for aligning the Group’s technology strategy with the overall business strategy via its three service pillars:
1. reviewing and governing the solution architecture for all change deliveries, ensuring integrity of the solution architecture and key design decisions in line with technical suitability, Group standards, policies and principles,
2. defining solutions (where required) and providing architecture guidance and architecture management services for change planning & delivery with the objective of ensuring alignment to Group’s strategic objectives, compliance to Group policies and conformance to Group standards.
3. reviewing, introducing, and maintaining principles and standards for design governance in line with evolving business needs and Group policies
Howden Group are embarking on several strategic systems and technology transformation initiatives for its business units and regions across the globe.
We are seeking a Junior Enterprise Architect with foundational insurance or financial services sector knowledge and, with strong enterprise modelling, data scripting, and business design, ideally with a focus on insurance or financial services.
This hands-on role will support architecture-led transformation across Howden’s diverse global landscape. The successful candidate will work with senior enterprise architects and domain/regional teams to understand existing environments, support the evolution of future-state designs, and contribute to visual artefacts that guide decision-making and governance.
Key Responsibilities
Work alongside senior enterprise architects to support the documentation and analysis of current and target-state architectures, including capabilities, systems, and data flows.
Collaborate with regional and domain teams to gather information on local technology and business landscapes and assist in consolidating this into global models.
Support translation of business needs and problems into solution options and structured models under guidance from senior team members.
uild and maintain enterprise models using Bizzdesign, aligned to ArchiMate standards and Group frameworks.
Develop OpenSearch dashboards and visualisation layers to expose insights from architecture repositories and solution assessments.
Use scripting and automation (e.g. in OpenSearch or Bizzdesign) to analyse architecture metadata and support automation and visualisation needs Assist in preparing structured artefacts for architecture governance forums, stakeholder presentations, and programme steering groups.
Contribute to the application and reinforcement of architecture standards and reference models, under the direction of senior architects.
Support regular updates to capability maps, system inventories, and roadmap visuals in support of ongoing change initiatives.
Participate in workshops, taking an active role in capturing actions and transforming inputs into visual outputs or models.
Contribute to domain-specific research, including vendor analysis, change impact, and technology trends in the London Market and broader insurance sector.
As a member of the EA team, the Junior Enterprise Architect may be required to perform wider duties and tasks within the capabilities and responsibilities of the role.
Key deliverables and outcomes
Develop and maintain enterprise architecture models using Bizzdesign, supporting capability, application, and business process mapping across key programmes.
Create OpenSearch dashboards and architecture visualisations, surfacing insights from structured and semi-structured data sources to inform planning and governance.
Automate updates and queries within Bizzdesign and OpenSearch using scripts to enhance data integrity and presentation quality.
Support artefact development for initiatives such as the Athena programme, London Market transformation, and reinsurance platform strategy.
Participate in producing stakeholder-facing visuals and documentation for governance forums.
Gain experience in applying enterprise architecture methods to real-world challenges across business domains.
Knowledge and Experience
Must Have:
Foundational knowledge of enterprise architecture principles and practices.
Working knowledge of ArchiMate and hands-on experience using Bizzdesign, including scripting/automation.
Experience working with OpenSearch or comparable indexing/visualisation tools to support architecture or data-driven dashboards.
Understanding of business design, capability mapping, and operating model components.
Strong written and visual communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly.
Detail-oriented and collaborative approach to problem-solving.
Desirable:
Exposure to the insurance industry, especially in the broking or London Market domain.
Awareness of key architecture domains (business, data, application, technology).
Familiarity with delivery methods such as Agile or SAFe, and SDLC principles.
Interest in enterprise tools such as Salesforce, Azure, Power BI, or integration platforms.
Professional Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Information Systems, or a related field.
Desirable: Certification or formal training in ArchiMate, TOGAF, or Bizzdesign tooling.
