Within our global RI and PIRI segments Corporate Underwriting (CU) is responsible for the risk management of underwriting risks as well as the overall business support to enable and guarantee a risk adequate underwriting. The Geo Risks Section in the Central Division Underwriting is responsible for creating and evaluating natural disaster risk analysis models and the assessment of natural catastrophe damages. In this challenging and varied environment we are looking for a Junior Consultant Storm.
The position is limited to March 2026.
Your Job
Producing internal windstorm models and evaluating external windstorm modelsDeveloping and applying innovative approaches for natural hazard rating and risk assessment, and providing active support for underwriters, in traditional and non-traditional reinsurance Consulting and training for MR staff and external clients regarding storm related questions Co-operating with a network of NatCat experts throughout the whole Munich Re organizationProducing post-disaster loss estimates and evaluating losses from large disasters for deriving, updating and/or checking the vulnerability functions in Munich Re models or external models; conducting or participating in reconnaissance missions/loss inspections after major disasters/lossesYour Profile
University degree (and, if possible, doctorate) in meteorologySeveral years experience in MATLAB, GitHub and GISSpecialist knowledge in natural hazard modellingSeveral years professional experience in natural catastrophe risk analysis in the financial sectorGood project management skills, preferably acquired in interdisciplinary project teamsExcellent analytical and problem-solving skills Well-developed ability to work in a team as well as excellent representation skills and client focusGood knowledge of probabilistic and statistical methodsGood knowledge of written and spoken English and a working knowledge of a second foreign language (or German, for non-German speaking candidates)Application Instructions
