Jr. Advisor, Financial Assistance

The Jr. Advisor, Financial Assistance (A) provides financial aid and scholarship information and guidance to prospective and currently enrolled students, and their families in order to facilitate a payment plan for students seeking a University education. Moreover, the Jr. Advisor, Financial Assistance (A) assists students in identifying and applying for available loans, grants, and scholarships.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS        

1.    Helps students develop a budget to minimize student debt.
2.    Reviews student files, correspondence, and exercises discretionary role in awarding scholarships, grants, and other monetary rewards.
3.    Audits financial aid accounts, as needed.
4.    Responds to questions and counseling needs in-person and by mail, phone, and e-mail.
5.    Assists in facilitating workshops and makes presentations on and off campus to groups regarding financial aid and scholarships. 
6.    Inputs and updates information into appropriate financial aid system. 
7.    Serves as a liaison with other University departments.
8.    Contacts students regarding changes in eligibility of awards or any other significant development.
9.    Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current financial aid practices through training, professional seminars, workshops and associations.
10.    Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS        

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required

Experience:
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
•    Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
•    Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
•    Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
•    Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
