The IT Technical Engineer – Integrations & EDI, leads the strategy and execution of the Smithfield System Integration landscape. This role drives modernization of legacy systems and transformation of integration practices, aligning with target architecture and technology standards.
As part of the Global Applications & Operations team, the engineer ensures the stability, support, and continuous improvement of middleware and integration components across internal systems and external partners. Collaborating with development, architecture, and infrastructure teams, they oversee end-to-end integration planning and delivery, optimizing design, support models, and operational workflows for seamless adoption into the IT&T ecosystem.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Integration Design Leadership: Lead middleware teams in translating business, functional, and non-functional requirements into detailed designs for application integrations and services that support various business initiatives.Continuous Improvement & Metrics: Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to drive ongoing improvement of integration activities and outcomes.Process & Tooling Optimization: Identify gaps in middleware development processes and tooling across QA, deployment, and operational support, recommending enhancements to improve efficiency and reliability.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Provide solution design leadership by working proactively with business and technology delivery teams, including platform, relationship, and development managers.Strategic Vision & Innovation: Contribute to the strategic direction and evolution of Smithfield’s integration platforms through innovative architecture, design patterns, implementation strategies, and lifecycle management.Platform Support Management: Oversee 3rd-level support for integration platforms, ensuring 24/7/365 operational availability with a target of 99.999%, in coordination with the Production Management team.Legacy Transformation: Lead initiatives to modernize legacy application integrations, aligning them with Smithfield’s standards for reusability, reliability, and scalability.Reliable Solution Delivery: Ensure technical solutions are designed, implemented, and tested to meet organizational needs with high reliability and maintainability.Security & Compliance: Guarantee that all integration solutions adhere to IT security policies, compliance requirements, and governance controls.ERP & Platform Integration Oversight: Manage monitoring, escalation, and design processes for ERP systems (SAP, JD Edwards), Warehouse Management, and Manufacturing Execution platforms. Oversee both EDI and non-EDI integration frameworks in collaboration with Business Relations, Applications, and external partners.Leadership: Drives a positive employee experience through leadership by way of employee coaching.WHAT WE’RE SEEKING:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 8+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.A minimum of 5+ years’ experience with Integration systems (Boomi, GoAnywhere, SAP IDOC. PO)Experience integrating with Workday using REST API, Boomi Connector, and SFTP.Experience integrating with SAP (preferably S/4HANA) required.Proficiency with middleware and integration platforms such as Dell Boomi, PO/PI, MuleSoft.Familiarity with API gateways (Apigee, Axway, APIconnect, MuleSoft) preferred.Strong understanding of IT architecture design, cloud computing, PaaS, microservices, and containers.Strong vendor/service management experience, including SLA oversight.Excellent communication skills across all organizational levels and with external consultants.High adaptability to new technologies and changing business requirements.Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities.Team-oriented, respectful, and approachable with a focus on building strong working relationships.Up to 25% travel required.
